View Full Version : ball joint for the tail slider ... but no space

just got an extension to put a ball joint to the tail slides instead of this a bit crappy white "rod adjuster" (which has a lot of play after few flights). but now I want to secure the screw of the ball-link on the upper side, otherwise this is going to slide out due to vibrations, but the space is too tight ! Anyone got a work-around ? so the screw (in the picture facing downwards touches the tail-housing). Flying without self-tapping screw is probably too risky ... Thanks !!!

Just use a regular nut rather than the nylon self locking.
File the excess screw length off with the nut in place.
Remove nut and re attach wth locktite.
Lots of room that way.

Thanks Rob, I am just quite scared to the fact that the screw jumps out of the nut one day, hopefully the locktite really will prevent it ....

On the Freya and EVO50 no nut is used at all so :)

oh really ? well probably it's another material, but that one the hirobo uses is kind of brittle material, so I don't fully trust it ... loosing connection here during flight, and I can buy a new one :?

As Voyager pointed out - I did the same thing - used a regular nut and just dremeled the excess screw away - used loctite - it won't come off if you use blue loctite.
Been flying with it this way for a few months, no issues,
Jeff

i did not use a nut at all, i had the freya and evo 50s... dont remember puttina a nut there... the material seems the same... maybe red locktite would do?

i try red locktite and let's see after it's dry ... thanks, this material is definitely too rigid for self-tapping screws only .... :?

I see, well maybe you are right about red loctite is maybe not the (only) way to go, now used red loctite for the windings and the screw holding top with nice portion of glue "rounded" in a way so that it would not arrest touching the tail housing. Thanks a lot,

If you use a regular M2 nut and an M2 washer under the ball (which you should do anyway) the screw is the right length and you don't have to grind.
