What exactly is the circuit board in the 9Z battery pack for other than containing the diode to prevent fast charging?

I want to put a 3 cell lipo in & wondering what the board is actually for!

Thanks,
Steve

The radio will not turn on without the circuit board on the battery. The diode can be bypassed on the circuit board. But if not done correctly the radio will not function.

You can put a 3 cell Li-Po in the 9Z. It will just have to be wired to the circuit board.
You can fast charge thru the circuit board. I did it for years. I would suggest taking the battery out of the radio to fast charge it. I would definitely take a Li-Po or Li-Ion battery out of the radio to charge it anyway.

Yea I have 2 packs for the 9Z, one has the diode jumpered & the other is one Futaba put in there when the Tx was up there for a check up - said it was dangerous to jump out the diode (go figure :badair: ) put a new one in & charged me for it!
Was wondering on the board because I'll definatly take the pack out to charge - well put a fresh one in while the other is charging. Dont want to put faith in the "watch battery" to keep my programming. And wondered if I could do with out the board or if I'm going to have to arrange it so I can plug & unplug from it easly.

Thanks,
Steve

Dont want to put faith in the "watch battery" to keep my programming.

The battery pack that powers the radio has nothing to do with maintaining the programming on the radio. The watch battery as you call it needs to be replaced at least every 5 years. When that battery goes dead the programming is going to be lost no matter what type of battery is powering the radio.

You can not do without the board on the battery pack. The radio will not turn on unless that board is plugged into the back of the radio and a battery hooked to it.

The first transmiter packs from Duralite. They just used 3 cells glued together and heat shrink around them. Then the 9Z battery case was cut off behind the circuit board. The 3 cell pack was hooked to the circuit board. The circuit board and battery pack could be removed easy just like a normal pack nearly.

The pictures should give you an idea.

Thanks for the pics David. Thats kinda what I was looking for. I all ways assumed as long as there was a pack hooked to the Tx you wouldnt loose anything, only if you removed the pack & the lith. battery was dead. glad you told me that! That battery was replaced in mine back in March so I'm good for awhile!
I'm wanting to use a 3 Cell Lipo instead of the Duralites, hope it will fit when I do as you have done in the pics. If not I was thinking of removing the board from the case & shrink wraping it to make a little more room! I put a 3 Cell lipo in my 9C & love the 1 hr charge time & DAYS of flying before the next charge! Great for the events.
