Hi all,

After a couple of days for shipping and another 34 days going through customs inspection (I may qualify for a record), my Spectra G kit has made it home.

It took me 4 journeys to the customs facility at the airport (80 km, or 50-mile drive each) dealing with a surreal amount of bureaucracy to finally clear the package. Even not wanting to, it was mandatory to hire a customs "agent" to handle the paperwork (that he seemed to be very good friends with the customs officers is probably unrelated, but I digress).

The good thing about the wait was that I had time to buy some tools, see the HF build videos a few times (Thanks, John!) and study the manual. When I finally opened the box, it was a little funny that I felt so familiar with most of the bits & pieces that I found inside.

One thing I have not yet found in local hobby shops is the recomended synthetic hydrogen grease. May I use substitutes? I have found molybdenum (specifically, Woodland Scenics Moly Grease) in LHSs. Lithium-based grease may also be found, if not as easily as the former. Will either of those do?

Yes,

The moly and lithium greases will work. Avoid a grease that is thin however that can quickly be slung out of the thrust bearings. The lithium grease may be a bit thin, dependent on who makes it.

Enjoy the kit!!

Few months ago when I asked on this forum about greasing the big white gear wheels (main rotor), someone told me that is not necessary to do that.
And I didn't.

What I'm asking now is, some hydrogen grease is a bad thing to put on those gear wheels? This grease will keep dirt in it and damage the wheel teeth?

What do you suggest John?

After 7-8 flights I notice some white powder on the main frame near the wheel. It's wear or the gear is just sitting in?

Don't want to steal the topic Bruno... sorry to hear that you had to wait so much for this heli.

DO NOT grease the gears in the drive train. The grease will attract dirt and grit and rapidly wear the gear train. Only use the grease on the tail and main grip thrust bearings.

Don't worry about the white powder as it is just from the main gear "wearing-in" and is perfectly normal. The main gear will "polish-up" and run very smooth from then on.

No problem Lucian. I too benefited from the information after all.
I already forgot the wait. Now I'm all focused on assembly! :D

John... Thanks. Will get the moly grease, then.
