View Full Version : spreading plastic logo frames with heat to fit Z50A-800/600?

I have read somewhere that there has been some success in spreading the plastic Logo10 frame using heat to allow a slightly bigger motor to fit. I just received my Z50A-800 from Gary (thanks!) at tppacks.com and I was going to use it in my eRaven but it comes so close to fitting in the stretched Logo10 that I am tempted to try it out. It just slides inbetween the frames and it looks like it will have enough room just behind the motor (depends on the pinion). The frame would only have to bend out 1 to 2mm on each side to provide clearance. I can only imagine that this setup would have plenty of extra power. I would be running it on 9s or 6s if I needed more battery. (3 TPX2100's for 9s or 4 TPX2100's for 6S-2p). So, has anyone done this? If so, did it work out ok?
Thx.

People have been stretching the Carbon Fiber frames of the Logo 14, using a heat gun and having popsicle sticks bewteen the motor and frames. I am not certain there is anyway to properly do it with plastic frame like you show......

Ok, thanks. I guess there is only one way to find out... :)
actually, I could just use a small spreader long enough to see how it performs before attacking it with heat. I still don't know if it will sit far enough forward to clear the frame brace just behind the motor.

Let us know, those are supposed to be decent motors I hear, I am going to try one on a E Raptor here in a few weeks to a month.

The Z50A-800 was intended for an eRaven and for a few minutes it worked very well. I had a bad controller and it decided to cut out just when I went inverted. After the resulting wreck (my first attempt at an inverted auto) I had to look down just to be sure I had it in idle up. It was so I sent the controller to the distributor and they checked it and replaced it with a new one. I had also just picked up a lightly used Trex-600 so I cut the CF frames and stuffed the Z50A-800 in it. When my mode1 DX-7 shows up I will get to try my larger heli's out. It has been awhile since my DX-6 related eRaptor crash and I decided not to fly the larger heli's with an AR6000 anymore. Just the Trex-450 only.
I was going to get a Z30A-1100 and use it on 6s for the stretched logo10 but I went ahead and bought the Z50A-600 so I could use the 4-tpx 2070's in a 12s-1p setup. This means that I will still have to find a nice way to stuff it in there. Yes it is heavier and overkill but If I don't like it, I have other larger heli's to use it in. I will consider all the ideas presented here and report back when it is in and running. I wil also attempt to get eagletree data including rpm to post... :)

I had good luck spreading the frames with a heat gun and a large socket. The Z50-600 sits in there nicely after grinding away some of the two frame spreaders located just aft of the motor. I am running 12s-1p 2070's and getting a comfortable 5 minutes of flying. As expected the heli is very agile. I posted the eagle tree data in the "Power systems for logo's data and graphs" thread. The data suggests that this system is not very strong but I think that is because of the low mah capacity of the pack. Since the heli has plenty of vertical acceleration I don't think I will change anything for now. :D
