OK, Now I'm confused :bomb: . What is the best way to check the run out on the fan. Do you measure the around the outside of the fan or the along the top of the fan? I have seen both ways shown. Is the method to true up the fan the same regardless of where the measurement is taken from. I also assume that the tapping being done is always from the top? I'll be tearing the machine down to fix a crash and I might as well make sure I did it correctly.

I do the top of the fan. I think the runout is more pronounced from there. Tapping is also from the side of the top but not much needs to be done. Take the fan off & make sure the inside taper is smooth with no burrs, I give a slight film of oil on it & tighten it down a little at a time & check runout often. Good Luck!

You're measurig the runout at the top of the fan HUB, not the fan.

The manual shows where to place the dial indicator.

Opps that's what I meant! LOL Thanks for pointing that out.

Chris, I measured my run out by placing the dial indicator as shown in the manual with the point on the side of the hub. I've seen a post on this site that shows the point of the dial indicator on the top of the hub measuring run out I guess up and down versus side to side. Is this the same?

I would think that the amount of deflection measured on the top surface versus the side of the hub would be less and hense less accurate. Get it dialed in on the hub like the manual shows and you'll be golden.
