I came across another Logo that had the "box" on it, but didn't like the heavy feeling for a sport flier so I moved it over to my AP Logo. I am running a 13T final pinion with the 2:1 box and a C50-10XL. I am running two 5S 5000mah batteries hooked in series for 10S. I could only do a short test today and did notice a 50%-60% reduction in amperage and no more stutter when starting up!Can I expect longer flight times? If my meter reads 500mah used, that's 250 from each pack, right? What is the max cell count for this motor?

looks good... may I offer a suggestion?
put some fuel tubing around the zip ties that hold the flight packs on. You don't want them to chaffe through the heatshrink and eventually into the pack itself.
Looks like a nice machine!
as for your question about 500mah used... if in parralel they split/share amperage, but in series they do not.

Thanks, The zip ties were temp. I replaced them with velcro straps and velcro backing! She's weighing in around 9 pounds now, hope it will still auto.

What is going to be the big advantage of going HV? Is it worth the extra weight of another battery? Is it worth extra wear by turning twice the rpm? Probably should have asked these questions before, but I was bored! Would I be better off keeping the box, gearing it for a 5S set up and then having twice the number of flight packs available? I'm just concerned about the weight of the set-up and not sure of the advantages of HV yet, please educate me

you're going to cut your amp draw in half and that's always good. I suspect your motor temps will drop a little too. I'm not well versed in that motor and boxed setups but I am a fan of HV.
I say fly it and record some data and see if it works out for you. If it does go for it!

After a 5 minute test flight today, the motor was 168 degrees and the batteries were 82, ambient tem0ps were around 55 with very gusty winds. How hot is too hot with this motor? My other hacker (C50-15L) runs around 120 degrees on a 5 pound Logo 10. Is this the nature of the beast or something to be concerned about?

I don't know how hot is too hot for that motor, but that is definately getting up there, especially after only a 5 minute flight, and it beeing 55 degrees out.
I don't like it when I can't keep your fingers on a motor for a few seconds after a flight.

I just mounted a fan, we'll see how it helps after these winds die down. Maybe 42 volts is a bit much for a 1642kv motor?

I have a similar motor (C-50 15XL) in my Ion-x. You should be fine up to 180' but I would NOT go over that. after that you risk de-maging the magnets.

what batteries do you run? 10S? What kv is the 15XL and how hot does yours usually run?

I run the original stock Ion- power train- 10s, the motor does get pretty hot, up around 150+, but I usually break up my flying into two 5 min flights. (Ion can get a solid 11 min of medium 3D with 8000mah 10s pack) I'm not exactly sure of the KV rating
