Running 30% magnum heli fuel, in a caliber 5.

Where is your needle set?

If the needle is below 2 1/2 turns out, it will hover for about a minute then abruptly die. At 2 1/2 turns, it hovers OK with tons of smoke and my driveway is full of little oil/fuel droplets. Seems like this is too rich. It was running fine with the stock (Kyosho) muffler before the "upgrade". Then the needle was at 1 1/4 turns out. Have others had to richen the needle with this pipe?

Any advice much app :arggg: reciated.

What headspeed are you running? What glow plug are you using? Where is the low end set at?

An abrubt shut off usually means the engine is rich. If they are lean they will ussually give you a warning.
Replace the glow plug and go back to 1 3/8 and give it a try.
I actually had to lean mine for the same condition when I went from the zimmerman to the Hatori.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm running at 1600 headspeed, which I think is 16,000 rpm for the engine. The low end is untouched from the factory, and I get the same results with new OS #8's and ENYA #3's. I've been "inching" it down a few clicks each flight, and I'm down to about 2 turns out, which is leaner than when it used to die. Very strange.
