Hey folks
I just started with RC helos a few months ago and it has taken over my life...almost! I got a high wing trainer earlier this year that has yet to be flown. High winds out here (Edwards AFB, CA) made it difficult to get out. It seems I could never match low winds with time off. And the guy who was going to train me is also in the military and was gone a lot. While working hard one day I ran across some internet video clips of helicopters. This was one of the coolest thing I had every seen. Shortly after that I placed an order with HeliProzs. Shortly after that I found out I should of gotten a 50 Rappy and bypassed the 30…it’s great on gas though! The Rappy is a work horse and I will keep it a 30 for a while. My flying is coming along, I’m still honing my nose-in skills…next will be autos. I have a new Freya that is ready to fly, minus an engine…long story. Once I get the autos down I will start flying the Freya. I would hate to plant it because of $5.00 glow plug or something equally small. I know crashes are in my future but no need to hurry them. It’s a case of risk management, the military is very big on this I can’t seem to overlook it. For now Rappy will have to keep sticking its neck out in the name of progress. I have since met a new buddy that flies a couple of EVOs and has been a ton of help...thanks, kelly!

Hey Kelly,

Man, I totally understand your "addiction" !!! Heheeheh, I wish I had started with a R50 also, but the R30 and Hawk Sport are good flying machines and are capiable of doing anything I can do at this time. Cheap to crash also.... comparitively.

I have only been flying since January '04, so I still consider myself a newbie. I am into Fast FF and Stall turns, etc. I am just trying some "short" autos and almost ready to try a loop and roll. There is no doubt I can do it, it is just getting up the nerve. (I believe in the "risk management" theory)

I have flown planks off and on since the mid-70's, but heli's are the cat's meow !! Being able to fly one is a thrill. Planks are fun, but require more space and conditions to fly.

I just got a Shogun, so I can fly here at the house. I think this is going to be a neat little heli. Still putting parts together for it, so maybe in a couple of weeks, I can have it flying.

Good luck on the heli hobby and yes, It is an Addiction !!! heheheee

Welcome to the club Kelly.....sounds like your off to a good start...dont rush into the bigger birds...one thing that a 30 will do is teach you good collective management.....bang too hard on the collective and the motor bogs....when you can flip and flop the 30 size machines and not kill your headspeed, flying a 60-90 will be second nature.....i speak from experience....my 30's at first would annoy me because i didnt think they had the power to do what i wanted to do.....once i learned to control my left thumb and not be so aggresive on the collective manuevers started coming to me quicker and quicker ....the "Tim the toolman Taylor"syndrom finally hit me though, and i got more power :D
