I am considering switching to a DD tail on my blade CP. I noticed in my research that all the pic's I have seen the tail rotor is mounted on the left side of the tail boom and appears to turn clockwise when viewed from the right side of the heli but the stock rotor is on the right side of the boom.
What is the reason for mounting the motors on opposite sides of the heli?

The Direct Drive is a tractor prop and it pulls the tail clockwise as the stock setup is a pusher prop and pushes clockwise.

It is possible to mount DD on either side, I however, think I get better response from the tractor. I can use a smaller prop (3020 GWS) and don't get interference from the boom and tail support.

Yes you can mount it on either side, but the motor is timed for best efficiency going in the forward direction, so for best results use a tractor prop and mount on the left side of the boom.

Thats great, thanks for the info. I was given a GWS motor, prop adapter and some blades so I am going to give it a try.

Was there a noted difference in battery life when you went to DD with the EDP-50 motor?

There was no noticeable difference in flight time but there was a huge increase in tail control. I use some Dualsky X-power 1050Mah batteries and have no problem getting 10 minutes of flight time.
