Just got my new ION in the air -- 8 flights so far. Flying it is a dream. Better than any nitro 90 sized heli I have owned. Only wish is for more power like any other heli (that should be just a matter of time with the newer outrunner motors though).
Painted the canopy using Pactra paint, automotive pinstriping, and automotive clear coat. Here are the pics. Hope you like them.

We typically fly over the 6 feet tall weeds. There have been many times where I have crashed my Raptor and gotten away with only a bent flybar or hardly any damage at all.
Unfortunately, it is a pain to retrieve the heli. I lost my Shogun in the weeds for 2 weeks before recovering it.

Hehehe, there is a lot to be said for flying over tall grass and weeds.... Definitely can save a heli, but you seemed to have found out how easy it is to loose one also. Glad you found your Shogun. Did you suffer much damage from the weather while it was out there for so long?
I am just finishing my Shogun and hope to have it flying in a couple of weeks. Still looking for a good used GY401. Trying to keep this bird's cost down, but I like the 401's. heheheeee
Your Ion looks great, one day..... I would love to have one.
Have a great weekend and fly safely !

Bob,
Great job on that canopy!!! Not fair, I want to fly at that field...next trip to Hawaii I'm bringin my Ion's and not the golf clubs. Glad youre enjoying that Ion and you got it, when your ready for more power just grab an Actro 32-3 or for really, really sick power one of the LRK outrunners. Again, great job on that machine.

Eric,
No problem. Give me a call when you come to Honolulu and I'll take you to the field. 808-783-4562.
I have two marine batteries so you can use one of them to charge.
My charging setup is a Costco 115 ah marine battery and two astro flight 109s connected to that. So far it has been working flawlessly.
I usually fly 8 minutes and then recharge. I got 2 recharges yesterday and I imagine I could get at least one or two more so now I have an extra battery. My flights have been taking out ~3-5 ah out of each battery.

Thanks.

robert,
* JR receiver
* 9252s on the swash
* GY601+9251
* 700 mm MAH G2
* +10/-10 on the pitch but it occasionally bogs and if I reduce pitch, I'm not happy with the climb rate. Throttle curve on idle up is already flat 100%.
* 95 mm SAB carbon tail blades
* had a UBEC until it burnt so using 1700 nicads. Koolflight sent replacement.
* 54 T gear
* latest 8000 mah battery packs from TP (5S4 mil spec)
I've had 8 flights so far and the motor is always ~150 degrees, speed controller ~100 degrees, and batteries 115 degrees or less.
Any recommendations to getting more power? Actro?

bob,
If youre only flying 8 min. and want more power without changing to an outrunner just get some lighter packs. The TP 6000's or the Flight Power 5000 FPEX packs would fit the bill nicely. You'll reduce the all up weight by more than 1lb and you WILL feel it! I let my buddy fly mine yesterday with the stock Hacker setup and the Flight Power packs and he about fell over. He kept doing full power climb outs and just giggling! He flies a stock Ion with the 8000's. With the lighter packs and the Hacker this heli has sick power. My climb out rate with this set up is as good as any 90 nitro machine. Just don't forget to keep flight times to 8 min. or less. Hope this helps out.
