I have a futaba 9chp and an electron 6 neg shift rx. The module on tx is channel 30. Do I need a futaba or hitec crystal in the rx? Well an off brand like GWS work?

Nope, you need a Hitec Dual Conversion Xtal.

Futaba or Hitec dual conversion crystal will work. The GWS crystal will most likely work if it is a dual conversion crystal.
