Fellow Freaks,
Well I took my first flights with my new Titan Friday. Wow what a machine! Being my first nitro heli I was pretty intimidated by flying such a big machine (compared to a T-Rex). But once it was in the air it was awesome! Very-very stable, very easy to fly, and very easy to see (again compared to a T-Rex).
I did have one issue that concerned me. During spool-up the Titan started oscillating left to right for a few seconds (it got kind of violent actually) then settled back down as it continued to spool. I thought it was the blades, crooked in the grips, then straitening out. However after a bit of flying around and landing it did it again during spool-down. It seems to only occur if I slowly spool-up or down. If I land and hit throttle-hold it doesn’t do it. I tightened the blade grips a bit and that got rid of the problem during spool-down, but still does it during spool-up….. Blades are balanced, fly-bar and paddles balanced, everything seems to be fine mechanically, just wobbles during spool-up… Any ideas or insight on this?
So, occultation problem aside, I was out flying Saturday and was forced to do my first Auto-Rotation! I had just done a big turn and was flying back towards myself when the motor (an OS non-hyper hand-me-down from a friend) seized; forcing me to auto in from 35 feet up!! So I did my first auto and first nose-in landing all at once!! Everything turned out ok, the Titan returned to the ground without injury. Whew!!
Let me know what you guys think…
Thanks!
