View Full Version : How many levels are there in the orientation training?

Does anyone know how many levels are in the orientation training? So far I've made it to level 14. I've also found that the heli used for this trainer is terrible roll and flip speed, making it harder to get it flipped over and in a steady hover.

Anyway, how far can we get? And for everyone, how far have you gotten personally??

I believe that there are 27 levels.

I've tried it a couple of times. I didn't know it existed until I saw it mentioned in the other thread. I plan to work with it as much as I can stand, it should really help.

I think I got to level 7, after selecting the big Bergen gasser, modified with anvils for paddles and 90 % expo on the cyclic. I was still a nervous wreck and exhausted but it's great fun.

How do you select a different heli? I only see two options in the heli orientation trainer and those are Level & Exit.

The 3.50.033 version does not allow you to select a different aircraft.

yep, I just checked and it won't let me change it either. Guess I didn't notice the non-switch since I've been flying the dominion a lot lately anyway. At least that's what comes up on my orientation trainer when I punch it up. The odd thing is I showed someone else at the hobby shop just yesterday how to make the paddles heavier to make the orientation training easier. Darn it, now they too will know I've lost my mind.

would you show one more person???(me?) It's driving me knots, I'm all over the place.

Vitek is right. I can't change mine either. I can, and did punch up the Bergen gasser, made the paddles heavier, and when I tried it the thing hovered smooooth as butter. Then when I switched into the Orientation Training mode the aircraft reverted back to the original dominion and I didn't even notice. And apparently the fellow at the hobby shop didn't notice either.

It IS very difficult and it drives me nuts too. But it's practice I desperately need.

If you just want to make any heli hover easier (when not in the orientation training mode) you can go into the setup of the heli and add a bunch of weight to the paddles and add expo to the cyclic. I guess the G3 folks might consider that 'cheating' if the parameters were adjustable in the Orientation Trainer mode.

You hit the nail on the head. IMHO the best way to make it easier is to practice. What's the point of practicing if you're just going to look for the short cuts? I once heard a quote that "Perfect practice, makes perfect". If you think about it, it is entirely possible to train yourself into bad habits. I use to teach at a tech school and one of the guys I worked with referred to our students as the video game generation. Rather then learning everything they need to learn in order to keep teaching themselves, they were all just worried about finding the 'short cuts' to get them through the quiz or the test. They would never retain anything.

As for me, I've not got past level 14, but I can now get to level 14 in about 20 minutes.

I went through my initial helicopter training (full size) with a few people like that. All they wanted to learn was enough to pass the next quiz/test - and these are people training to become instructors!

I'm up to level 7. The first time I hit level 7 it took me about 30 minutes. Now I can get there in about 10 (barely). I struggle alot at 6-7 tho..so I'll be here a while :D

I guess you don't need to go through each levels that you already finished. They will be shown in "level" menu.

The funny things is: I stucked in level 13 "nose-in inverted" for 2 hours, then I managed to go up to level 16 "tail-in inverted". But I found out I can't even do "tail in upright" 'cause my brain is still automatically does the "nose-in" (aileron is reversed). :)

I guess best way is to pratice more and more.

Because it takes 27 days to develope a habit I suggest you do each level in progression everytime to help engrain your responses to the orientation each session. IMHO this will pay off in the long run because you'll instinctively and correctly react to an emergency rather than trying to think your way out and risking more severe damage.

Anyone can learn to fly under normal circumstances. Good pilots learn to fly under adverse conditions. Train for the worse and hope for the best.

How long do you have to hover in the circle on #1 before it lets you go to #2?

I hovered in the circle for what seemed about 10 mi's and had to leave so not sure how the time thing works. Does it automatically advance you with some kind of notice.

It is kinda boring, but I really need to do this for better all around control so I will use the training as often as I can...Also nice to fly out and do ticktocs without the fear of crashing, nice sim IMHO!!.. . :)

Under the training menu in G3.5 there is heli hover training and heli orientation training. You need to be in the Heli Orientation menu in order to see the levels that everyone is talking about.
