View Full Version : Actro 32-4 12s for 3D?
Hi!
I have a question for all the actro-experts of this forum.
I want to use an actro motor in my E-vibe and I wanted to use 12s. I have seen in this forum that the 32-3 in 12s has great power but it need a gear ratio close to 12:1 and that is not possible with the vibe. The maximun gear ratio I could use is 10.5:1 and I believe that is too much for the motor!
My idea is to use the 32-4 with a gear ratio of 8.8:1. Anyone has use this setup with 12s for 3D fly? how is it compared to the 32-3?
My setup is:
12s TP extrem 3800
Jeti spin 99 or CC 110HV (to be decided)

JV,
If you take the 100T main and 9T on the motor, you will get 11.1:1
I was told a 100T main is available for the Venture. It does fit on the Vibe-hub, but you will have to trim the frame.
Hope this helps.

hey , the motor will work good , but you need more voltage to wake it up like a 32-3 on 10s is better. the 32-4 is a hum-dinger on 14s in my Ion, geared 10 to 1 , close to 6 HP

CC better
Many thanks for your replies!!
So I have two options:
- 32-3 with 11,1:1 (12s)
- 32-4 with 10:1 (14s)
I will go today for the 100T main gear to see how it fit (the local JR supplier has it in stock)
Macelino, I have seen in other post that you will try the 32-3 in the vibe, do you fly it?
Bye

No, not yet. I killed the maingear with the still installed Pletti. Probably a bit much gear-mesh
:dontknow
wanted to reduce noise for flying on sunday and got a surprising auto. I`m happy, it was not completely inverted in this situation...
I want to try it with the stock 88 main and the 9T motor with a Powerjazz and low throttlecurve (straigthline) at 55%. That`s about how i fly my Rex600 on 10S with Jazz 55-10-32.
Hope the Powerjazz works same way.

I run the 32-3 on 12S geared/pullied 12:1 and it works great, this at 90% on the esc (poptart) in governor mode. I *think* that on the 11:1 you could safely pull the governor down to the 75 or 80% range and everything would work fine. I have been thinking about doing this myself as I would like a bit more headroom for the governor to work in.
Chris
Thanks for your reply Chris,
I have ordered an Actro 32-3 MAX so I will let you know how it works on 11:1!
Marcel, do you have use the 96T or 100T gear in your Vibe? did you have to modify the botton ball bearing support of the motor pinion?
Which firmware work well in the CC 110HV? I know that some old versions doesn't work
Thanks again!

I would agree with Chris, 11:1 on Governor seems to be ok. The CC Governor works down to 60%. 58% for example did not work. (Kicks the tail like a rich nitro)
The latest firmware works for me.
I had 100 T main and 10T on Motor Pletti) with this 60% governor. Was very strong!
After change to 9T, i killed the 100T main on the first flight.
Pulled full pitch to do a large Flip. Half the way over, power was gone :dontknow
I found the missed teeth inside the canopy after the touchdown

Yeah, we found a while ago that in MM1, 10 teeth is as small as you want to get on the pinions, any smaller and there is just not enough meshing material there to put a couple of kilowatts through.

Thanks for this info, Chris!
looks like i don`t have to try 9:88 then.

update for those who are looking for a fine governor on the 90 size helis.
I`ve got a new 100T main, finally installed the Actro 32-3with 10T instead of the 9T and got one of those new PowerJazz.
And i`m still using my 12S TP3850 eXtreme packs.
That`s a really nice working combo! It`s simply the best from all the different setups i could try or see in person.
That PowerJazz-governor can give you very consistent 1400/ 1600/ 1700 and 1900 headspeed (those are the stages i tried today) with plenty of headroom to hold rpm even on 12,5° collective!
So JV, you will be happy with that 32-3MAX! Just get the right controller

Cool , way to go Marcel, Im glad the the Jazz is working fine , did you get the little prog card with yours , any tips you wanna share
Tony
Thanks for the info marcel!!
I am waiting for the motor (it's backordered) and I will use it with 12s TP 3800 extrem packs, so we will have very similar setups!!
Which fly times do you obtain?
The only thing that I don't have decided yet is the controller. At the begining I wanted to use the Jeti Spin 99 because it's very light (100g), but after reading some bad comments I changed to the CC HV110. From the CC controllers I have seen good and bad comments. The power jazz appear to be the perfect solution but it's a little bit heavy. Do you know the weight of your power jazz? in each web site has a different weight!

Tony,
no i didn`t buy a progcard with the Powerjazz and had to run around on sunday and catch one up from a buddy.
You can`t program this ESC with the Tx. It doesn`t have the jumper anymore. It would be nice if the dealers would know about this, and ask you if you already got this progcard.
JV,
i had to wait a few weeks too. Looks like they don`t stock them.
Flight-times change with the headspeed you use and of course your stile of flying.
My target is to get 6 (powerful but not hardcore 3D) minutes. I was flying for 6 minutes on 1900 and had to put 2850 back.
I think there is a little bit more stick banging allowed.
weight: mine was 230gr out of the box with long wires but no plugs.
I had to shorten the wires to about the half of the original lenghtens and will take the fan down. I post the weight after this mod.
I believe the fan is not needed, there is enough airflow around the ESC
Marcel
Marcel,
It's good to know that I need the progcard if I want to use the powerjazz!!
About the Fan, I sent and e-mail to kontronik and they answer me it will continue working without it and the weight of the fan is 20g. In a second e-mail I asked if I could unplug the wire of the fan or if I have to cut them...they just replied "I don't recommend to remove the fan" .....they could answer that in the first e-mail :dontknow
Anyway, you can answer my question! :D Can you unplug the wires of the fan?
I will be happy with 5min of hardcore 3D.....

hey , since I bought mine almost a year ago , they pitched in a progcard for the long wait .
well Im ganna carry mine to my remote work tomorrow , and might tinker with it in my Razor with the new motor I have , I have 2 6s3850s , which should work fine for Gym flying , but for some hotdogging 3D , slap in some 15s1p :WOW

JV,
there are no plugs on the fan wires. We would have to cut them.
If this powerjazz can handle what it`s`labeled, then i don`t see why we should need the fan. We will not see 120A continuous on our application.
That would be 30C or 2 minutes on 4000mAh packs.
The smaller 55-10-32 for example are able to handle at least what they`re labeled without fan.just my $.02 -- i will tell you if i could smoke it
Hey Tony,
your reading my thoughts!
The Nitro guys have already seen my E fly now. If i fit my flying to get 6 mins, it flies not much stronger than the nitros. I do have some 4S and 6S Packs around. That can give 14S if i am not concentrated while mounting the packs.
Marcel
Marcel,
I think the same as you, I don't believe the fan is needed.
Anyway I have more feedback from kontronik. The reason of not recommending the modification is because the fan is on the controller and they never recommend modifications of their controllers. The fan should work when the temperatures are over 50ēC in the heatsink. At the end of the fly your fan is on?
Let me know which is the weight of the controller without the fan!! I am very interested :glasses2:
