What is the consenus on using MG servos in .50 + sized helis?

Are the vibes to much for the metal gears, do the wear out fast?

If mild sport and hovering is the only goal, are the MG servos ok?

Thanks

Hey,

Quite a few of the top pilota are using MG servo's in high power 90's which suffer from more vibration than a 50 normally and so I would say you will be fine with them.

Metal geared servo's normally wear out pretty quickly and this is one of their disadvantages, another is during a crash the gears are less likely to break taking the strain off the servo. Having said that there is normally a sacraficial gear to take these impacts and save the servo.

Of course there is other options, HiTec's Karbonite geared servo's for instance, high quality servo's for not a lot of money. While the gear train is practically as strong as a MG setup they suffer from wear less and so will remain tight and slop free longer.
I am using HiTec 6965's on my Century Swift and they perform very well, 6.5kgs torque at 0.1 sec @ 4.8 volts isn't a bad sepc for a sub £50 gbp's servo. However I am not entierly sure if out of the box they are as accurate as say JR or Futaba, but they can be reprogrammed with the HiTec programmer box, which I do not have access to :( Other than that I am very happy with them.

Thanks for the info!

I've actually been looking at the HS635 and the 6635. They seem like a great value, but some of the MG servos have a bit more torque for close to the same cost or less. Although, longer lasting gears would be more beneficial.

I know the servos like the Futaba 9252s are extremely popular, but I can't see spending that amount on servos at the moment. Especially, if the HS6635s would do the job just as well.
