I've flown a 500 ESP 3G for a few months now, and a 500 ESP flybarred with GP780 for a few days. Both have relatively stock components, but 3G has a Kontronik Jive and the flybarred heli has a CC ICE 75. 2650 RPM both. 3300 mAh 6S 35C Hyperion batteries.
The differences that I observe first hand:
- 3G model is a bit more stable, somewhat more if there is wind.
- 3G model needs a bit less active flying.
- 3G model has 6:20 on the timer while the flybarred one has 5:90.
- 3G head has less parts.
- 3G costs more.
That's just about it. Not that different. Comments?

Is the price difference woth it. ?? That was my question when I bought the 500ESP w/ flybar. Back then it was around $200.00 more I think. Running a ICE75 now with a Scorpion 1600KV. Very happy with it. Couldn't imagine "more stable" . Maybe some day I'll get a 550 3G . Or should I upgrade my ESP ? Is it worth the Exta cost having to add it too a ESP Flybar ?? Now it would cost me over $300. :wow2:

The biggest difference I've seen is the amount agility during 3D stunts. My FBL flips a lot faster with the same amount if cyclic pitch. FBL also seems to track(stay on course) much better during 3D.
I'm flying the Skookum 720 though. Not sure if the 3G performs the same.

Actually you can get a 500 3G system with blades for $340 shipped. It's even cheaper when I bought 450 pro 3g a while back

i like my 3G 500 very very stable only some drift with wind
other then that if you take your time and get the head setup well which is easyer
it will nearly hover hands off

Align 3G FBL Head. I figured it would be easier to get replacement parts for this head. It's working great with the SK720.

I'm not into real 3D yet, so I wouldn't know about that. So far I do non-inverted eights forwards and backwards, and inverted eights forwards, and some loops.
My 3G is still at version 1, but I'll update it when my USB link cable comes.. Should be very soon.

Readyheli.com sells all the parts to make up the head. It's about $100 for everything.

Or you can get the RJX head ($44), EDGE FBL blades, plus the Mini V ($299) and have a kick azz setup!!!

do you need FBL blades to fly FBL?

do you need FBL blades to fly FBL?
Nope, they aren't required. The FBL blades make the heli fly more stable. The non FBL blades are quicker making them twitchy. There is a huge difference in the way FBL vs Non FBL blades fly.

+100 :Bang
Only I see no reason not to buy a regular Vbar. It isolates vibrations a lot better than the all in one design of the mini and 720. If you use a proper flybarless system you will convert your other helis as soon as you can :smokin:

I dont know much about the SK 720 however my impression was that the Vbar was the top of the class when it comes to flybarles systems.
Chevy better than a porsche? LMAO!

I'd put the scrotum on the second place though. I' m not impressed at all.
