View Full Version : Trust a pre-assembled part?... Or tear down and rebuild?

I'm just now starting to build my Extreme. The first step in the book is to install the flybar seesaw into the head block.

However, my kit came from the factory with the seesaw already installed in the head block.

Do I tear it apart and put it back together? ...or can I trust that the MA factory did it right already... and with loctite etc?

Mark,

Personally, I like to double check most everything (I didn't disassemble the clutch stack but inspected it carefully). I took just about everything a part to inspect the work and do a few tricks to the kit - I prefer to use certain locktites in different areas and use CA on most screws that are inserted into plastic. Locktite was used everywhere it was expected on the preassembled parts - you can trust the assembled parts.

The Extreme goes together very easily if you have built precision models before. Follow the detailed manual carefully before building. This is a very precision heli with close tolerances and will last you a long time with care taken during the building phase; particularly when setting the back lash of the crown to the pinion as well as building and setting up the tail gear box.

Mark,
I have been flying MA helis for 10 years, I have never took apart any of the pre- assembled parts that comes in the kits. MA has a couple of people that assemble the parts and they have been doing it for a few years. I have set and watch them assemble parts that come assembled in the kits. They do a good job and are very attentive to the detail of assembly. They use loctite and loctite primers where needed when assembling parts.

I trust Minair to preassemble parts correctly (and so fgar they have been good)

Though i do tare appeart other manufacturers pre-assemblies

I have never disassembled one of mine-- no problems.

Thanks guys,
I'll rest easy then and leave it.

There are plenty more parts for me to tinker with as it is. I've built a Hawk Sport from a quick-build kit, but this is a whole different deal.

If there is a way to assembly a screw or nut and anything on up, I'd prefer to do it myself, BUT...............I've never had any issue with the preassembled head block/flybar carriers, and I don't tear them down. You might check the hole for passage of the flybar for a little loctite blob where the pivot screws enter before you cuss and wonder why the flybar is bumping something. I have seen that happen.

Ben-- I was cussing that last night-- flybar was hitting something. I thought the screws were too long-- turned out to be locktite.
