I know this is a bit early but I wanted to let everyone know. I am starting up an Annual event at Central Carolina Radio Control Modelers (CCRCM) near Greensboro NC. The first Annual will be held on 9 June 2007.

CCRCM has a runway and a separate helicopter area. We will have exclusive use of both areas for this event.

I am planning several contests that will be held at the helicopter area so the runway area will be available for most of the day. The times this area will not be available is during the drag race contest and a demo flight around lunchtime.

I may have a sponsor (Gohbee.com) if I can ensure them we will have enough participants, please post here if you will attend so I can let them know.

Food and drink will be available, contests for all experience levels, door prizes and a raffle.

All sizes welcome

Sorry, no overnight camping on the grounds.

Club web site is www.ccrcm.com directions to the field can be found there

Been back in the mid to late 90's. I have been a heli event at this field I believe.
Is this the field that has the radio tower off to the back left if facing the runway? If it is , then Tony McDowell before he died, use to hold a nice size heli event there every year. I still have the rotor blade covers made from socks that they gave all the pilots each year. Good to see a group in the area is getting some heli stuff started again. Kings RC use to help sponsor the event before.

Mostly this will be a fun fly, but I'm planning to have some contests if there is enough participation. So these contests do not interfere with people wanting to fly free style, all events will be held at the heli area except for the drag race, which will be held on the runway due to the space required for that event.

The contests I’m planning are:

Precision Landing: This event will have a series of circles painted on the ground apx 1 ½ foot diameter. The contestant gets one point per skid that ends up in the circle (initial contact with the ground). The contestant that has the most points in the least amount of time is the winner.

Ball Push: In this event the pilot must push a ball using the prop wash from the heli’s blades through a goal. If the weather is conducive this event may involve a slalom for the ball to go through. This is also a timed event.

Autorotation Contest: The pilot who auto’s his heli with the nose of the heli closest to the center of the target wins.

Drag Race: Pit your heli up against a competitor to see who is faster from point A(setting on the ground engines ready at one end of the runway) to point B(Mid field for all spectators to see the finish). How about a grudge match?

I have not worked out all the details yet on how to run these events. If anyone has any experience with these types of events please give me any advice you have. The Ball Push – I already tested the ball for ease of pushing with my Raptor 50. The ball is easy enough to push, hard to steer/stop. The Precision Landing – I am hoping this is an event beginner pilots can participate in; perhaps two classes will be needed. The Drag Race – Double elimination would be nice but it will depend on how many contestants and how long it will take to complete. I don’t want to keep nonparticipating pilots grounded for a long period of time, however the heli area can be used for free flight during this contest.

Camping Just doing a quick search on Yahoo I found www.greensborocampground.com. This location looks like it is about 15 minutes from the air field.

Yes this is the same field. I did not know Tony, I just got in the hobby 2 years ago. I hope to get another good sized event going.

Not being able to camp at the field is a big detractor for a lot of us. Bummer... :( Lots of us cook out together while staying. If you have to eat out every meal and pay to stay somewhere it makes the cost go up exponentially. With the price of gas now days this is going to cut your attendance.

Camping at the field, keeps it cheap and we all pile up and carpool, makes us able to attend a lot more events.
