View Full Version : Tracking problem

A new question.
I kind of got a little out of hand when taking out my last main gear. I finally ripped it out and managed to break 2 servo’s. After getting 2 new servo’s and installing them, I think I have centered the swash with them but not really sure.
My question is this: Now that I have 2 new servo’s I started to fix the tracking and I ran into a new problem. When I look at the tracking the blades are tracking just fine on one side (right side if looking at the heli from the left side I think) but the blades on the other side are out of track. What do I need to look for when the tracking is inconsistent? Could this be from the swash not being perfectly level?
Thanks again for all the advise.

It could be a swash issue... make sure the swash is perpendicular to the main shaft from all directions with the servos centered. Once it is, work your way up the head and make sure all the linkages are the same length. If you're running the bell-hiller head, make sure the mixing arms are at the same angle with the swash level, collective mid-stick (unplug the main motor 1st) and the flybar level. Double check your blade pitch is equal for both blades.

Make sure that you have the mixer arms on correctly.
On my first major rebuild I one of them reversed and the pitch on one blade was always different than the other.

For me, I did play with the servo linkage a bit and tried to level the swashplate a little bit more and I think I have it. Wow, it is important to get those things level. I thought I had it level once and when it would take off, the nose would go straight up. I worked on it a bit more and now I think I have it leveled and the tracking looks better. Boy, these things are touchy hehe :D .
Thanks again for all of your help. Hopefully I have it fixed at this time, we will see.
Thanks,

I have the Microheli Aluminum Bell Hiller head. The LE of my blades are way high when the arms are Level. Does Anyone know if i can just Pivote the blade grip?
Thanks

I'm not familiar with that head, but at mid-stick, you should have 0-pitch on the mains in both normal and "stunt" mode - or pretty close to it.

HMMM OK......I think i will be asking more questions once i get this thing to the point where i can start to Spin it up.....All I am waiting for is a couple of set Screws. Once i have these I will feel more comfortable and continue with the Project
Thanks Guy`s

The best thing is to get the Finless Trex videos on CCPM setup and follow them. The steps are the same and it will get your head setup to fly properly.
I used them setting up my Bell-Hiller install on my CP.

I just recently went through these video’s and I wish I watched them before I tried to fix my tracking issues. I think if I knew how to do it correctly I would have had less problems.
One such thing I did not think of was, if you turn one link between the servo and the Swash up 1 you need to turn the other side down 1. If you turn the front one up 1, you need to turn the back two down 1. I never did this before when adjusting my tracking and my swash set up is all screwed up now lol.
I did not know the pitch is changed by the height of the swash and I have been pushing up the swash for a while now (or down, either way it is all over the place).
It is very important to understand how it works, trust me hehe :).
The video’s are: CCPM Setup Part 1 (58 Megs) and CCPM Setup Part 2 (58 Megs).

Yes, they are AWESOME.
My Trex hovered perfectly first flight. So much so, I immediately went in and resetup my Blade. And it flies so much better now.

Yeah, a bunch of people on te other site don't understand taht. They set the links to the suggested lengths, and can't figure out why their pitch range is off. The suggested lengths are SUGGESTED STARTING POINTS. :)

The key to getting the pitch throws even is to set the top of the swash EXACTLY 1/2" from the top of the main shaft. (Gotta take the head off to measure it) and then get it dead-nutz level. After that, work your way up the head and voila! A dialed in head.

This is excellent information. This will be my starting point when I can get to getting my BCCP set up correctly.

This is just for the CP/CP Pro. It *MAY* work for other collective pitch micros, but don't hold me to that. The 1/2" ensures you will get equal swash travel up and down on the mainshaft.
Forgot to mention you want to do this measurement with the servo arms perpendicular to the servo body (i.e. with the left stick and trim right in the middle) MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG ***BOTH*** MOTORS WHILE DOING THIS!!!!!
http://www.bladecprepair.com will walk you through the proper setup of the CP if you get stuck.
