G'day, a while ago, I thought there was some talk about a new stronger tail gearbox, but having a look throught the old posts I can't find any info on it.

I have a standard gasser and the 90 nitro bird, and they both have the same style tail gearbox.

Is there a new gearbox that I should be thinking about using with the gasser and 90? Also does it come with the newer tail pitch bellcrank? and should I also refit the 90 with the newer tail pitch bellcrank.

Can you list the part numbers for the new gearbox please and also list the parts I would need to convert my gasser.

Cheers

The newer tail pitch crank was offered by the Bergen's @ no charge. I don't know if it's still that way, but why do you want to update your older style GB ? All my older Bergen's Tail GB's work fine. The new style adds extra weight to the tail, which is something I don't want to do on mine.

The newer gear box is a lot stronger so that you can push it even harder and the pitch travel is greater. Both of these combine to give a more consistent tail response, which I noticed a big improvement in travelling pirouetting maneouvres like piro-loops and piro walls of death. I am much happier doing piro tick-tocks and fast changes of piro direction aswell, with the added strength.

I didn't notice any real change in CofG, but I guess it may make a bit of difference.

Holy Crap! This past weekend at the B-Ham Beast flew my Intrepid 90 and BEAT the new gear box HARD!!! Larry Bergen himself was Beast's spotter and Larry was GRINNING from ear to ear during the flight...

me...on the other hand was wimpering in the corner hoping that I would see my 90 come back to me in one piece!!!! There was a brand new Ricko's canopy on the bird and Beast had already broke his Stratus (TWICE)... so he was doing what he does best...flying OPM Baby!

Bottom line is this new Gear Box is BULLET PROOF! Beast did everything he knew of to break it and it just took every thing he through at it...If you have never seen Beast fly....he is the one of the hardest persons in the hobby on a tail gear box...and if he couldn't break it, I don't think the rest of us will either!

The gear box is available now from Bergen and is a direct replacement for the gear box that comes with the nitro and standard Gasser...has more pitch range, bigger gears, a 6mm output shaft, and is only slightly heavier than the original gear box (about .5oz heavier)
