My olympus is 5.11 inches wide, my very sweet brand new Askman logo 10 360 pan, has a gimbal width of 5.03 inches, with a small bit a manuvering my camera fits in snug accept for the 2 screws which attatch the gimbal to the main support.
I pulled out the screws tonight and countersunk the holes in order to accomodate some tapered head screws I had and here is the result...
maybe this is a good idea? I dont see that it would hurt the strength of super rigid G-10

if you needed a larger mount, I would have included one. :) should be ok though. if it becomes an issue down the road, I will make you a wider mount. :)

I actually really like the fact the camera is so snug in there, I hope no vibrations transfer becasue of it, but I like the extra security. The design is awsome seems very smooth so far and with any luck I will have some pics this weekend.
I also know your very busy, didnt want to bother yea.

only thing is this. the thread is 5-40, not 4-40. makes it harder to find screw that fits. 4-40 will work, but bit loose. I use it because it fits the .125" bearing perfectly. mcmaster has the screws.

Andrey... how come you don't use metric hardware? I find it so much more convenient.

I am so used to doing things in SAE, all my CNC code is setup in SAE. it is pain to switch to metric, as I will have to change all my code. and my tooling is SAE as welll. with metric parts, I would have to convert it and complicate the code. I am so used to designing in SAE, it does not make any difference.
also, it is not convenient to find certain metric hardware in US. for example, I have heck of time finding standoffs in metric, and when I do, the cost is 5-10x SAE. I guess if I charged what others charge, I could go metric, but I prefer to keep the cost down and pass the savings on to the customer.
also, once I acquired a inventory of hardware, it was hard to switch over. I am starting to stock more metric hardware though. Eventually, i may switch over more parts to metric, but that is some time down the road.
