One of the fliers at my local field has an Outrage 550 he bought but didn't finish building, and I'm considering buying it. I think it's about a year old, and has the Delrin main gear as well as the stock gear.

Is there anything I should look for or be concerned about? Will I need to upgrade any parts e.g oneway bearing?

Also, am looking at Outrage's web site at their servo recommendations. Interesting that their recs don't include Outrage servos, and that the Hitec servos recommended are not current models. I have read the servo recommendations on here also.

The servos on Outrage's website range in torque from 44-92 oz-in for "beginner" and from 80-196 oz-in for 3D.

I'm a beginner (fff, fig 8's) and plan eventually to do sport to mild 3-d flying e.g. inverted flight, hurricanes, rainbows. I want decent roll and flip rates for working on inverted flight, but don't think I need super high-end servos. I don't like the idea of putting Align parts (e.g. DS610) on the Outrage heli though.

Considering my flight ambitions (or lack of them), would it be ok to go kind of inexpensive on the cyclic servos, say with Hitec 5485 (72 oz-in, $25) or Airtronics 94842 (111 oz-in, $45), or would it be smarter for me to go for the $80-$100 Futaba S9452 or Hitec HS 5965 MG?

Your feedback is appreciated!

I would definately get it, especially if the price is right. As far as upgrades, just check the One way, if it has "Outrage" engraved on it, its the new one, also check the tail drive pulley, the upgraded one is the white one, not black.

As far as the servos go, get as expensive as you can manage, dont get the cheapest just for the sake of getting it in the air. If this means saving for a bit, then do it.

I would go with the Hitec HS 7985MG, it is pretty fast and has lots of torque and about $95 ea, or the Ino Lab HG-D760MG for about $75 ea, I bit the bullet and got the Outrage Torq BL9080 Cyclic and the Outrage Torq BL9088 Tail Servos, I got them for $120 each on ebay from HeliDirect.

As far as gyro goes, if it doesn't have one, get a Spartan Quark, you can find great combo packages at HeliDirect for Quark Gyro and Tail Servo Combos.

Does it have a motor and ESC? I would suggest a Castle Ice 100 and a Castle BEC PRO, as far as motor goes, it is totally user choice, I got the Scorpion 4020-1390, alot of guys suggest the Neu motor.
