hello;

first of all I´d like to present my respet to the forum.

I´ver read a lot about lepton pinions and the dificulty of finding them around.

As far as i know this pinions are 0.6 metric. and tamiya has a series for offroad trucks that matches this. they go from 16 teeth to 29 teeth, they are made of aluminiun and some of them are hard anodized and template.
I have made an order to an online shop i expect to receive it soon. I will inform as soon as i receive them if they are really worth buying. But if so, then, we will have the chance to try diferent motors with no limitation because of lack of pinions. Tamiya really has good stuff and these pinions are made to sustain heavy torque/aceleration that offroad motors produce.
If I´m right (i hope), then, the searching of these pinions will be over.

I am trying to use a plettenber 15-12 that I have from another eheli (i love this motor) which in my opinion isone of the best around, i like kontronic kora too, they are the ones which uses a third anular bearing, holding the bottom of the bell of the outrunner motor, (a must). I run this motor at almost 15000 rpm without any vibration at all.

I hate high frecuency vibrations, that´s why I gave up flying glow helis and changed my fleet to ehelis.

ending,

Once again, thanks to the administrator for this so smart forun

yours

This is interesting, I think there has been a couple of topics handling Tamiya pinions because of the same metric - but I think the problem was the motor shaft diameter not fitting, they all have been too small. If you find some, pls let us know - drilling them wider is a very difficult thing.

FYI Schumacher Inc is making full pinion sets for the lepton. I just got a set and will be trying them So far they LOOK GOOD!

ok, when I walk in the shop, what parameters would I ask ? Living in Tokyo, full of car freaks, so besides Schumacher I guess there is plenty of others

0.6 metric (what does it mean anyway ?)
output shaft diameter 5mm

That's it ?

Thanks

Where on the site are the pinions located and do you have the part#.
Thanks.

That's great to hear Bob! Try to find out what pinion would be best (for 3D) on that 10t Hyperion you got there, on 4s. I'm thinking maybe a 21t~22t would be the perfect compromise between flight time and headspeed.

true, 21 or 22 would be perfect fit. when considering 4S, how about using the 3025/12 ?

I also think 21 or 22t would be great for the 4S 10turn setup. I have been running 80% throttle being that the combo is a little more than I need.

YOu cant get them yet but I would assume soon. PM AdrianM and ask him when he expects to have them for sale. He sent me some to test for now.

I was able to contact him and he said that they are going to be making pinions not just for the Lepton, but for the Trex 450 and 600 as well. He said they are looking at releasing them early next year.

Early next year ... :? guys, anyone tried a 12 turn motor for the 4S battery and 24T pinion ? Right now running 10 turn 3025, and from math point of view 12 turn is 20% less headspeed using same voltage level - same as if you would have a 20T pinion compared to the existing 24T on 4S ? Hyperion motors are not terribly expensive ...

I ran a 3025-12 on 4s for a while. Mine ran pretty good at 2800rpm @95% throttle.

apart from the money (about 60 dollar for a new hyperion) and the fact that I actually like the stock pinion (fits pretty well into main gear and is quiet, and available anytime), what option would be better, other pinion or other motor ? Does 12 turn motor draw more amps or the other way round ? Torgue the same ?

The 12T will draw less amps but have a little less power than the 10T

Hacker A30-10xl on 4s works well with a 24 t pinion, or my favorite the A30-12XL on 5s with the 24 tooth pinion.

I see, thanks - even less power when running 90% with 12T compared to 65% with 10T ?

not a lot IMO but I never flew them back to back. If you want power go the 5s route.
