I bought a CP from someone and the tail rotor will not spin. The main blades spool up just fine but no tail rotor. He said he thought the 4 into 1 was bad. Could this be the problem? Also the servos seem to make a lot of noise, could this also be a problem?

It's very likely the 4-in-1 is the cause of all the problems.. Just for giggles, pull the main motor plug out and plug the tail motor plug into that spot. make sure the left stick is full down before you power up. SLOWLY move the left stick up.. Does the tail motor spin? Yes? Probably a good motor but a bad 4-in-1. If you've got a voltmeter, you can see if the 4-in-1 is putting out any power on the tailrotor power circuit. You can also check to see if power is getting to the tailmotor itself.

Servo noise could be binding in the head or the linkages. Unplug the main motor and slowly cycle the left stick through it's full range. Does the servo noise stop? Does it only do it at the extreme ranges of the stick? If the noise stops everywhere but the top of the left stick's travel, you've got some binding issues at the bottom of the swash travel. Try lengthening the servo to swash linkages one turn each and try again. If it makes noise at the bottom of the left stick's travel, you've got some binding at the top of the swashplate's travel. Shorten those links 1 turn each.

You could also have some servo arm issues. Put the left stick halfway up with the trim centered. Are the servo arms 90 degrees to the servo cases? If not, you may have an arm that's off a tooth or two on the output shaft's splines. You'll need to pull the arm off and get it as close to 90 degrees as you can.

See what that does for you.

Thanx for the reply. I found out today the 4 in 1 is bad. Tail rotor motor is good. Just going to use the heli for parts. Thanx again for the reply.

You can get a new 4 in 1, or get a 3 in 1 and use the Rx.

Or just go full separates.

I'm getting ready to make mine all separates... It's got a 4-in-1 modded for a brushless main motor (plug in your ESC and fly) and works fine. Make me an offer I can't refuse.
