View Full Version : A note on Actro 24-4 Motors, no two are the same...

Well I had a chance to try out my 24-4 on my 14 today. It was decent but hard to evaluate with being -2 degrees C outside, lol. Anyhooooo when the pack was warm and all was good the Headspeed was skytached at 2190 at 75% governor on my Jazz 55-10-32. Now this was with an 11 tooth pinion Mod 1.0 and the 96 tooth mod 1 Maingear.
You ask ok what's the big deal here? Well in pms' to both Danny J, Mr. Mel and a few others on other forums I have come to conclusion that Actro is out of whack! Meaning it would seem no two motors are the same. Mr. Mel had to put on a 12 tooth to get what I have at the same %, and Dannys machine well is turning at least 140-170 more rpm on the head than mine with same exact pinion, and yes we all have the same main gear, and yes all have the same exact ESC as well. How freaking odd is that?
So.... if you are considering one of these motors be aware that you may want to order a 10,11, and a 12 tooth so you can find out how yours will fair out and get your desired Headspeed. Just a headsup for anyone every considering this motor, cheers

Agree, however, its not only actro, have happened to me before.

Anyone know a easy way to measure exact kv?

Electrically i dont think it can be measured as its probably in how the motor is wound. You'd have to hook up a tacho and apply a known voltage to the motor but with these brushless ones that's not easy either.

Yea weird I never found any other motor to be off like these ones have, kinda silly when you think about what these motors cost. Can't say I was really all that impressed by it to be honest. I logged 3000 watts but it didn't feel like it... have to fly it some more to know for sure but initial impressions were less impressive than I was expecting.

:!: :!: Attention for you Actro users outthere :!: :!:

On my regular gearlash-check (hold the can of the motor and wiggle the maingear back and forth) I felt that the whole can moved left and right :WOW :dontknow
So I took the motor out. Around the lower bearing there was lots of black gunk and dusty stuff. So the motor shaft spinned inside the bearing and ate itself away. Crap..
So I need to replace both now.. Shaft and bearing. So make sure you use some kind of threadlock on this place to secure the spinning parts together..

Thanks for heads up, not certain I fully understand which part, but now I will have to take a look at this when time permits.

Hey Shawn,
Here's a picture to get the idea.. Shaft spinned free insinde the bearings inner race. You can see the large gap between inner race and shaft. The metal is gone there

Thats a tough one, how to deleicately get some 609 loctite or something in there and getting in enough, but not too much where you get it in the bearing....
