Hi
Not ready for the nitro yet, still working the rex...... Yeah......yeah..... I am not done with the rex and am already thinking about the next chopper, what can I say? :dontknow

My question is: I believe that I have been told that the .30 and .50 are the same bird with two different engines installed, but how does this compare to the .60?

And many told me that the .90 is just bigger and the .50 has the same power/weight ratio, so why spend the extra $$?

Thanx... :D

I started w/ a 30v2. Later when I needed more I got a 50 Hyper. Frames are the same, but you have to change your gear ratios, Longer tail boom, belt and servo push rod and of course 600mm blades. If your are already running a T rex go with a 50(Hyper of course). Lots more power to weight than a 60, but not quite as strong as a 90. Parts are much less on the 50 and you can use smaller servos. Also use less fuel (Kinda) Still up to each persons taste......

There's two classes, 30 and 60. A 50 is a 30 with a longer boom and belt and bigger blades and a different gear ratio.

Then there's the 60, a 90 is a buffed up 60 with bigger blades, motor etc. The power to weight ratio is best on the 50 and 90, also the bigger they are the more stable they are and the better they auto and the easier they are to see, on the down side the bigger they are the more expensive equipment they need (good servos and a quality gyro), they use a LOT more fuel and cost alot more to crash.

OK. Thanx. Sound like a 50 would be what most are suggesting.

Thanx.

Well, I have talked to others who said the 90s are just bigger and more expensive to operate. That the 50 will be a better heli beginner or not. not true? :dontknow

The reason for the 50 is because people tend to outgrow the 30 quite quick, and the difference in price is not much and the 50 has a lot more power to weight ratio so it could become a full 3D heli, that means only one heli from hovering to full 3D.
I went for the 60 (almost the same size of the 90, just a touch cheaper) for the simple reason that bigger is more stable and I had no previous experienced with helis, but I'm starting to suffer the lack of power now that I'm starting to do a bit more than just forward flight.
just another newbie's $0.02

A 90 does alot of things better than a comparable 50, its heavier so its more stable in the wind, its easier to see, has gobs of power and auto rotates like a glider. But as you say its more expensive to run and more expensive to crash. When I have both at the field I probably fly my Raptor 50 3 times for every time I fly the Avant.

Yep I love flying the 90 but try the harder stuff with the smaller birds first.

The 50 is a much easier heli to fly than a Rex. I went the same way (crappy toys to T-Rex to Rappy 50), and I really, really wish I'd bought the 50 sooner. Or started with the 50 for that matter. I would have learned much faster on that.

ALL 90 owners I know, except one, fly their Raptor 50:s 90% of the time. That, to me, speaks volumes. The 90:s sure seem nice and stable, and have LOTS of spare power, but you can do the exact same things with a 50 for half the price.

so then consensus is: 90s are very cool, but 50s are more popular! For a multitude of reasons.

Sounds like 50 it is!

Thanx

Yep you can fly a .50 sized bird great and crash a .50 sized bird cheapest.

Will you still say "WOW" when you fly a .90 sized bird. YES. :smokin:

Here is a pic of the 50 and 30 raptors. The one on the left is a 50 Titan, on the right is a 30 V2... Don't mind the one in the middle, its an old .60 :D
