I have tried it at Ihobby and the LHS it doesn't seem at all as advertised but it did seem to have potential. I wondered if this is the case. I am still thinking of getting it after they get a beefier line-up(helis). Should I save my money?

I'd reccomend something else. Something that sucks that bad on a first offering is going to take too long to get better.

Tried it at a LHS, It flew like an early version of FMS.

Not worth the high price.

And could it load any slower? Awful.

And could it load any slower? Awful.

Not to mention the TIME and SPACE it takes up! Took over 4 gigs of HD space and nearly an hour to just load the sim!

WE have a brand new computer with a duo core and 256mb video card and had to try 4 different video drivers before the program would stop crashing!

I really think it will improve after they release the "update or upgrade" in the future but by then RealFlight will still be the same distance in front of it.....................

IMHO they should have waited MUCH longer prior to releasing FS One..................you only get so many chances at taking peoples money..........

Let me tell you my story with FS One. 3 weeks ago I ordered my first heli, the E-Sky Honey Bee FP. I also purchased FS One from my LHS. I had never flown any kind of an RC heli or fixed wing aircraft. I am a total newby to RC. I spent 2 weeks and approximately 21 hours on FS One learning to hover tail-in with the Blade CP model in the sim. My Honey Bee FP arrived and sat in its unopened box until I was proficient enough to hover tail-in in FS One. Well, last week I decided to give real tail-in hovering on my HB. The HB and I headed to my garage. Guess what happened? I hovered the HB tail-in right out of the box! That's right! My first hover lasted 65 seconds and I landed intentionally because I was so excited that I was shaking a little and I just didn't want to push it that much. I ended up burning 6 battery packs of tail-in hovering that day. Did I have any mishaps? Yes, a couple of rough landings, a tail strike on the garage floor and striking the main rotor blades on the wall once. However, no damage was done to my heli, though. For the most part, I was able to hover the HB very well and stable. Now I am learning side-in hovering on FS One and once I am good enough I will move on to side-in hovering on my HB, then nose-in hovering, then FF, and so on.

What is my point here? First of all, the comparison of FS One to FMS is total BS. There is no comparison, IMO. The bottom line is this...if FS One's heli flight characteristics are such crap how do you explain a total newbie like myself flying my first heli right out of the box? The only explanation is that FS One's heli flight characteristics are 100% spot on. As a matter of fact, I was very surprised that the flight characteristics of my HB behaved EXACTLY like the heli models in FS One.

So, I think that FS One is taking too much heat. Are there issues with the interface and transmitter setup? Yes, but those issues are being worked out. The positives of FS One are great graphics, smooth performance and fantastic and realistic flight characteristics.

I think sometimes that some of you veteran RC pilots can’t see beyond your own personal biases and that doesn't help newbies like me one bit. I’m sure that Phoenix, Reflex and others are also great sims; however, if I would have listened to some of you veterans, I wouldn’t have purchased FS One. Would I still have flown my HB right out of the box? Perhaps so; however, one thing is certain…I did so with FS One.

Have you flown FMS? Have you flown any other SIM's? For the Same Price Real Flight, or Reflex are a much better SIM's.

It is fantastic that you learned hovering with FS One. I also learned to hover on a basic SIM. I think it was called Aerocopter, and only had stick figure heli's. I had success on my first flights. I will not argue that almost any SIM will help to learn orientation. But for the same money you can have a more advance SIM, that will help you more down the road. If FS One was half it's Price I think it might be a better deal.

I still stand by my statement that it flies like FMS.

I have FMS and Clearview on my hard drive and I have flown them both. Neither of these two sims portray the same flight charateristics as FS One. Now, I have also flown Real Flight at the LHS and I thought it was also a winner. FS One is not a a basic sim and I am 100% sure that FS One will help me down the road on more advanced flying, including 3D. I still stand by my statements. We can agree to disagree. :D

I am not trying to knock your experience with it. I have only flown it at the LHS twice. It is possible that they have it on a slow computer, or not set up correctly. The graphics are good, but on that demo stand I thought it flew a little stiff.
I just think others looking for a SIM should at least try other's before they buy. Most of the LHS in my area have one of the SIM’s set up to demo.
Simulators are one of the best things going in R/C right now, especially for people new the hobby. ANY of the SIM's available now are superior to what I used when I first started. And I did pretty well after learning on that one.

My LHS has both realflight G3, and FS one. The few minutes I spent on the FS one seemed good, the same for realflight. One thing I am not sure of is the guy there said that FS one would only run on a cp that has and AMD processor, he said it would crash with the celoron processor. I would check this out before buying. I also can't decide which one to buy. Maybe I will go tomorrow and spend some time on both.

I thought that those who have never seen FS One may like to see a couple of video clips. Here are a couple clips of me hovering the Blade CP in FS One.

They are up to version 1.0.4 now. down load the update.
I haven't had any problems with mine at all. loads slow on my computer too, but is great for practise. I agree tho that for the money, i'd buy G3 instead. FSone seems more like a good video game. but who knows. Maybe one day FS one will be as good as G3.

I realize this thread is a few days old, but I wouldn't feel right if I didn't chime in with the anit-fsone camp. I fell for it, and although it's fine for the basics, you'll realize it's crap as soon as you try to shoot some autos with it. I had the CSM sim almost a decade ago (been out of the hobby for a while, just re-entering), and way back then, their flight model was better.

Now that I spent (a bunch of!) $$ on it all I can do is hope they fix this in an update. It's horribly frustrating. I don't know which of the others to recommend because I haven't flown them, but I know I don't recommend this one.

I picked this sim for the simple reason that it had the CP Pro... and before I found any RC forums. (including this one)

I still haven't even recieved my CP Pro (on a truck, somewhere  ) so I've been suing this to learn on. Given that, I can't comment on the physics/accuracy of the sim. (my friend who has the CPP tried this and said it was spot on to his heli - we'll see :dontknow )

As for the software, itself, I have some good and some bad about it.

The good:

Nice graphics, and very customizable aircraft & Tx's. Even my n00b abilities have been able to do some neat things.

It will run on my 2 year old Vaio (2.8 GHz P-4)

It has at least SOME value because I can see my hovering/flyng skills (on the sim) improving. Again, we'll see how realistic it is, but I *CAN* see/feel a difference between the 4 or 5 helis (plus a couple with training gear)

A nice (but tedious) tutorial on fixed wing flying and some aerobatics.

Great envirnmental flexibilty interms of aethetics, flying conditions and venue.

The bad: (one note before I get into these. I *****ed a bunch about this over at RCGroups.com ( http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=626073 and one guy (user MSelig) posting in the thread evidently works for Horizon/Hanger 9/FS One and said SOME of these things will bea ddressed)

No hard copy user's manual. This won't bug some people, but this is a huge issue for me. I hate digging through FAQs or having to search "Help" to answer questions. I like to have something I can page/flip through to learn stuff. You can't search for something when you don't even know it exists.

On the above tutorial, you have to exit the tut to actually fly. :arggg: Unless there's some goofy thing to let you fly in it, but AFAIK, it's only a video clip.

There is no heli flight tutorial. You can fly all you want, but there's no instritional videos or anything. (at least not that I've found  )

The UI is just lame. It would be better with a manual, but so much of this is non-intuitive. This is one thing in particular that MSelig claims they are addressing. Yes, you can use it and find stuff, but it's akward.

Most of the fixed wing aircraft are Hanger 9 kits. While I understand that this is a Hanger 9 product, I would guess that a large number of people DON'T have one of their planes and want to practice their own kit. Since H-9 doesn't make helis, none of them are from them!

Once I get a real helo to compare it against, I'll post back my impressions...

my experience is similar to slikrx. I am fairly happy with parts of it but not manual is a pretty cheap shot. if i had to do over, i would get the reflex or realflight.

i do have a blade cp pro and i have to say the fs one is fairly accurate for that. i also have an axe ez. the sim has the blade cx. i find the sim a little easier to fly the cx than my real life blade ez. however, i can control my blade cp easier in real life than the sim. go figure.

overall, i little dissapointed but at my current level i believe i can benefit from it. In years past i did rc planes. the fs one planes seem to fly realistically.

Not to mention it takes up 4 gigs.
Last night I took apart my "TX" and switched around the idle up and hold toggles to match my DX7. The wires are long enough to easisly swap locations. Also I loosened up the springs a little and smoothed out the ratchet on the throttle. Much better now.
