It seems I've got got an effective range of roughly 25 feet and then the glitches set in. Really keeps me on my toes to say the least. I don't really want to pour any more money into it with recievers, gyros, motor controllers. How do I stop the glitches before this thing lawn darts itself into the front yard inverted or into the side of my new car. Open to any ideas.

First of all, make sure that the antenna wire is in good condition and isn't rubbing against anything metal/cabon. Also check to make sure it is still soldered onto the 4-in-1 also, you should be getting a good 1000 feet of range easy. Try replacing the receiver crystal and see if it gets any better, you might be able to borrow one from the LHS to test this.
Check for any loose screws, especially on the all metal head, a vibrating loose screw can cause alot of glitching.
Personally I think its your antenna, 25' of range is less than i get with the transmitter antenna all the way down doing range checks.
Also reroute all the wiring away from the motors and 4-in-1 the best you can.
If all else fails and you can't get rid of the glitching, Ebay that sucker and get a new one.

The antenna wire on more than one 4-in-1 has been rubbed through where it enters the 4-in-1. Make sure the insulation isn't rubbed through and make sure the wire is still connected inside the insulation - the insulation can look fine even though the wire is broken inside. easiest way is to pop open the 4-in-1 and use a meter to check continuity between the solder pad on the receiver portion of the 4-in-1 and the end of the antenna.
