View Full Version : batery/charger compatability
can I use my stock lipo charger (its an e-sky charger good for 7.4 and 11.1v) to charge other batteries. the battery I am looking at is a MEGA POWER Li-Po Battery 1350mAH 15C 11.1V. I am using it on a stock HB CP2, but I am upgrading to a HDX300 Brushless Outrunner 3800KV.
can I charge any 11.1v lipo batery with this charger?

No. That charger was designed to only charge those batteries, I wouldn't charge anything else on them you may cause a fire.
whats the difference between the e-sky charger and other chargers that make it incopmpatible with similar batteries of other brands? this is slightly confusing to me. if the bateries have the same specs, why cant I use the one charger. also I have not beeen able to find any documentation stating that this charger is only good for their specific battery

Like I said, it was only designed to charge those batteries. The plug on the charger is pretty much exclusive to that battery. Yes if you know what you are doing you could possibly tear all your LiPo packs apart and install the correct balance plug and use the charger. You could also make a balance plug adapter that basically rewires your other packs to the correct configuration. Not sure if its worth pulling apart $50 packs to make them work on a $10 charger. Give it a try and let us know how well it works, you might save alot of people alot of money if they can use that charger on all their 2 and 3 cell LiPo packs.

kfc,
I use the cheap ESKY charger you have and it works great with DN-Power batteries. You have to use the reverse poloarity wire, which is included with DN Power batteries. The Mega Power pack you wrote about has the same wire config as the DN Power pack.
If you order the Mega Power pack through helidirect, all you have to do is purchase the reverse polarity wire, which is a $1.49. It is the one listed as Align to DN power.
The Esky charger is compatible with E-flite, Align, E-Power, Sonix, and Dynam batteries (that is just a few) with no further need for modification. The DN Power battery is awesome but is heavy, but so is the Mega Power pack. Again, if you use the Mega Power or DN battery, make sure to use the reverse polarity plug.
Hope this helps.
