DJ,
I have seen that question posted many many times. I saw several answers on RR that they are doing it. I have never seen an official response from Bill.
I did not want to risk it.
I run my two cell lipo through a 7805 regulator from radio shack. ($1.85) and the 5volts it put out powers everything on my camera mount.
Second Rx
600mw BW Tx
BW kx161 video cam for downlink through viewfinder of my DSLR.
When I put the Canon A620 in there, I also power it off of the this same 2 cell through the 7805.
It would save you 4 ounces on your A640 if you powered it from the 2cell lipo.
You could also get a dimension engineering variable output regulator for around $16.

Yeah, I've never trusted it either so I run a 1320 2-cell pack with a UBEC or a ParkBEC.

ok.. I've got a super small 5v park flyer bec that I'll use. no sense in letting the magic smoke out of the BW TX.

I talked to Bill about using a 4 cell 7.4 li-ion unregulated and he said it was fine. I have been using it for a year and a half and no problems yet. Especially no majic smoke escapage. I have a 200 and an 800mhz TX

this from Bill
+++++
The 600mw tx is rated at 5v +/- 10% which means a maximum of 5.5 volts. I have run it directly
off a 2 cell lipo, but had a unit fail once when I did that.
Thanks,
Bill

seems like some units may be fine some not. I'll still use my mini BEC

hmm I cannot find it right now but the web site said when I had mine repaired that it could run up to 9 volts so I put it on a 2 cell lipo been running the hell out of it. I have it and my receiver on the same 2 cell lipo although I have a bec on the reciever.
