If you do a little searching, you'll see many people having problem with the CC HV controllers. I had a 85 and will never own another one. I got 5 flights before the firmware dumped.

As for the motor, the Z-power is about the best you can get right now. I would however, go with the Z30A-1100. It depends on the batteries your planning to use though.

What's wrong with the CC controllers? If you have the most latest software from CC, they're accually pretty good. Ive looged 100+ flights on my L10 with a CC45HV and Z30. Meanwhile it also seems that Rexy 600 owners have gone crazy for the CC85HV's. (Motions-Im not doubting your previous experiences though, with CC)

The Z30 1100's a great. The 1100's are for 6s, and the 800kv's are for 8S. Even though you're not planning on 3D, a Z30(A) 1100, CC45HV on 6S can handle your needs on say a 15t pinion. And yes, it is arguably the most wallet friendly setup out there.

Thanks LogoHeli I haven't seen much in the way of complaints on the CC HV ESCs either, lots of raves in fact. I appreciate the tip on the pinon gear as well.

Just for information. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=610221

I'm not saying they're bad controllers, they just have bugs. CC software is beta tested by end users so your always going to have bugs.

I have now 3 of the CC's flying and with the 1.54 firmware, no issues yet on a lot of flights.

No ESC is perfect. I have also had bad Jazz, Align, Jeti and Hacker ESC's, and so far I like the features of the CC better than all the rest.

I guess it all depends on what you are looking to get out of an ESC that determines how you feel about any particular brand.

Sounds like they were using Beta software which should never be used in a dangerous situation.

That's true Will. It's the luck of the draw. If you get one that has no problems you will swear by it. If you get one with problems you'll talk trash about it.

I was really happy with the CC until the firmware died.

So which model would be better suited for 12-13 cell NiHM's?

All the software version since 1.51 have been beta software. The feature set and software upgradability of the Castle controllers make them worth a little extra trouble. You have to be very careful what order you hook everything up when programming and they can have problems with some helis that defelop a lot of static in tail belts, etc, but when they are working right, the GOV is SOOO Sweet.

I'm running the Z30-1100 with 18 tooth pinion. At 90% throttle, I get 2100 HS and at 95% throttle, I get 2200. I am using 6s 3700.

I also have a spare 8s2p 4000 pack. Can I just turn down the throttle to 60% or so and have it work that way?
