PhoenixRC Sim (version 1.02.a) came in two days ago.
Impressions so far:
It runs well on my stock IBM Thinkpad R51 notebook (1.6Ghz CPU and embedded ATI RADEON video).
Graphics look good. I have not changed any default settings.
Water effects are very good.
Sound is very good. Water landings and takeoffs have a good water sound.
Physics seem really good. The helis fly like a real rc heli should.
I am using a JR XP6102 controller (Spektrumized). Only having 6 channels is a problem. While 6 channels is not a problem for helis, switching back and forth between helis, blanks and specialized craft is a problem.
This leads me to an area I would like to see improved:
I would like to be able to assign radio profiles to classes and/or models. Phoenix allows you to setup four radio profiles but, you have to select them manually. While this is not too bad, a better option might be to have a global default profile, aircraft class default and model specific profile.
This way you could tune your controller for fixedwing, helis, gliders, etc. When you select one of those types, it would use the global default profile or, the class default if you set one or, the model specific radio profile if you set one.
The radio profile system is my only complaint. It is not a major problem as I plan to stick mostly with helis.
