Just put the second Ion in the air. I am running the 1521/1.5/Y/F and it is a BEAST......... Completly different power than the Actro and it seems the setup is very efficient. I am looking forward to getting sometime on it over the Hollidays and be able to really tweak the setup.
I am running the HV110 on this model also but I decided to go with 710V's instead of 690's. Looks like this will be a good combination also .

Nice Clint! Are you using a double stacked secondary gear?? If so, what tooth count? Or are you using a belt system? Thanks!

Using the 1521 with 48 tooth stock gear, I guess it is the single. Had a glitch but worked it out. Plans for belt soon.

Clint Very cool !! I flew that motor for months and loved every flight it has reall solid power over the Actro setup

thanks for the input Bobby. I am still working with it but it seems like it works very well.

I flew the Neu 1521 1 1/2 y f and initially did not like it that much but after finding the sweet spot .............it really works well. I am finding that it doesn't seem to have the gov. range that the actro has but it is good where it is good. Looking forward to getting more flights on it.

Hello Clint, the issue some of us have been having is with the secondary gear wearing out too quickly with this motor. I would be interested in hearing how yours holds up.

I have 15 flights on it at this point and it seems to be running very smooth. Originally the pinion was rubbing the motor mount plate and was causing lockouts as well as heat transfering from the pinion to the secondary gear. What kind of flightr numbers have you guys seen before the gear goes? I am going to try and get some good numbers before I move on to the belt in this model. I have noticed that the nue has a smaller sweet spot for power and smoothness compared to the actro . I will be flying this week weather permitting. I also found that when adjusting gear mesh on the secondary I found it best to remove bottom ring from motor and then add it back last to make it easy to adjust. I will say I like the belt setup much better but for now it is working well. I will post the settings from the Castle link after my next session.
Hi Clintstone!
Congrats with your second Ion-X, I might get one more as well.
What is your battery config.?
Except for the 60T secondary gear, I have had no problems with the other gears. But guess the smaller gear, the quicker it will finish.
Also I think it is important to have the motor 100% lined up 90 deg. to the gear, plus of cause as we all know, the gear mess must be correct. Not too much, not too little :-)
I am too waiting to see the belt drive.....guess there will be a small power loss with a belt drive compared to a spur gear, but there are so many other upīs with a belt drive that i think many will go for it.
The reduced noise from a belt drive is almost worth it alone.

My Ion with belt weighs 10.5 lbs with 2 Flight Power 4350's 5s1p's. I am looking to get the neu on the belt so I can change ratios in less than 5 min. I have seen no power loss with my actro setup on the belt and I am actually flying it for 6 1/2 min with 710 v's...........................perfect setup for me. The Neu is coming along but it seems to have a much tighter sweet spot.
Good news clintstone.
I have belt drive on my Joker 2 as well, Donīt know how big the powerloss with a belt drive is, but it might very well be that small so that it is only something people would notice on the paper. Like when I changed from the normal Actro to the MAX version. I know it is better on the paper, but out there it is very hard to tell the difference.
So what people really will feel is the reduced noise the flexibility and maybe reduced maintenance with belt drive. Which also can make it easier for people to find a gearing for the "sweet spot" on their motor, thereby raising the efficiency.
I look forward for it.
