Hey guys,
ive flown my Trex 450 and other models on my DX6i for ages now.
Do I actually need to be able to turn it on and off mid flight because if i dont, thats £200 ($310) I dont have to spend on it.
But I will upgrade eventually
Thanks

Governor in Nitro heli is useful... in the way that it really keep your headspeed by monitor the rpm drop before you can even know it...
Cheers ! :cheers

My opinion is nitro yes...electric maybe(depends on the esc you are using)

You can still use a Gov or Limiter on a 6ch Tx.
Multigov will allow you to program one headspeed.
RevMax will also allow you to adjust the unit on the fly with the adjustable Pot.
You WILL get overspeed without a gov or limiter.. You can program curves for performace, but if you are flying 3D it is very useful for performance and over rev.

I will not tell you how long I have been flying heli's, but it is a long time. I see no need for a governer except it is a trendy thing like flybarless. We had flybarless years ago, but it did not catch on. I make sure to use the same servo on throttle as I do for the head, and if you have a modern radio with 7points for pitch and throttle curves you should be able to nail it dead on. That is if you understand engine tuning, and if not even a governer cannot help. I watch people fly with a governer and their head speed still changes. I will save my money. If I decide to do some contest flying I MIGHT think about adding one.
I am not building a T-Rex 600 flybarless and it will have no electronics for help. It will fly real smooooooth and quicker on the manuevers. Tail gyro only. I flew for years without even a tail gyro and got lazy so now I use one. Hard to fly fast backwards.HEHE

Hey.
The simple answer is no, you dont need a govenor but they do make life easier.
For many years I flew 3D and F3C without the aid of a govenor and while it takes longer to setup a model to maintain as constant a rotor RPM as possible, it is achievable if your willing to put in the time. Of course the more tiems you do this the easier it becomes with each model as you get more of an idea of where to start from when it comes to throttle curves.
In essence all you are going to be doing is matching a pitch curve point to the same throttle curve so as to limit any over speeding or rpm drop off due to the amount of pitch you're running at the specific point.
Having said this a govenor allows things to be much simpler, in this case just set your desired rotor RPM using a spare channel ATV or pot on the govenor itself and leave it to look after the rotor speed with it adjusting the throttle up or down accodingly.

the align gov work's great on the 700
the 700 is not as gov dependant as a 600
the 700 holds a fairly tight headspeed close to full throttle, the 600 overspeeds to much and TC's are hard to get to maximize power.\
enjoy your new heli

Glad to hear that it worked out for you, be sure and thank your parents!!!!!!
As for anybody else reading this thread, you can get an align governor in the classifieds for about $35. I would highly recommend it on a 600 size machine (don't own a 700), it just makes life a little easier and fun. Really cuts down on setup time!
I am using the original Aling Governor and it is still going strong after more than 250 flights.
Me too I started flying a loooong time ago and will not think about not using one now.
