Any more updates on how the servos are holding up? Anybody tried the stock setup with some 550 blades on the frames?
I think i'm gona try the frame set out first, then get stuff together for a 10s setup.

Since the motor is on top now. I came up with this.

gotta say, got to fly it this weekend. The smaller heli is definetely fun to play around with. nice size for just keeping in the car. Flys really well too.
*cough* paint me a canopy *cough*

Looks good matt! I need a newly painted canopy too

I want to add that I have had a chance to fly the HFE with Hitec 5245's and they work Great!!! Now all I need to do is obtain some JR servos to try

I got the HFE frames on and flying with the fixed XL motor..
Blades 600s
TP 6s 5000
Stock ESC
6V Duralite reg and stock BEC battery
3 9650s on cyclic
Swash mix 80 on all three
I am not getting near the cyclic response I was getting on the stock frames. Right now I am using the nearest hole on the servo arm.. I am concerned the outter hole may put too much tork on the 9650s.
Whats the verdict, inner or outter?

Dont be, they hold for much, much more then that.
Dont know where it comes from, but it looks like people mistrust this minisized servo so much, read up in this post you will see people flied it with .90 size blades, Im using VBar system that put a HECK of a load on them, they hold up just nice.

Are you trying to get the extreme pitch 14/14
Try going to the outer hole and lower that swash mix my mix is at 62 with about 7.5 degree of cyclic
Maybe because your mix is very high you are seeing the effects of such high servo resolution

I pullled JR8311s with 100+ counces of tork for these 9650s, so it is quite a stretch.. I am glad to hear of the confidence levels out there.

I have gone to the outter hole now with loads of confidence.. I will drop the swash mixes.. I really like your frames, Charley.. down to 7 lbs 4 ounces..

Looks good Sandy ! I have about 40-50 flights on this setup and 0 issues with the servos. Mine is a bit lighter at 6lbs 14oz. Flies like a champ !

Try going to a UBEC and rid the RX pack get her down to 7lbs on the nose :D  then its Ahhhhh

Charlie is INTO dropping weight and I have to say doing so does make for increased performance!

Man, so many ways to go..
Tic..., I flew the 9650s hard today with a hitch.. You guys are right.. I like the higher headspeed with the 12t helical and 600xl motor but harder on the batts.. I guess the next move is to go for 550s if I stay with 6S and forgo some of the "pop".

Was the hitch that it was hard on the batts? or hard on servos?

typo-> should be "without a hitch" Soooorrrrrry... 1 am is no time to be on the computer.. The servos worked perfect.. My usual 5 minutes took about 4300 out of the TP5000 battery (vs 3600 with the 11t helical)..

Nice. You might like the 550's, the flight time should go up, and motor will stay cooler. If anyone is looking for some cheap 550's I have a set of TT's I'm not using. Nothing wrong with them, I'm playing with some other blades.

What's a good performance 550s? All the good blades only come in 600s or longer.

I really hate giving blade opinions because what one person thinks is the killer blade, may not be the case with the next guy.
The TT's are fine, nothing really wrong with them. Myself I dont care for SAB blades, but thats me. There are plenty of manu. of 550's. SAB, MS composit, Thunder Tiger, KoK, MaH, etc...
Vic doesnt make a 550, last time I talked with him he said hes looking into it. Take that for what its worth.

Couple of questions....
Which of the 550 blades are more aggressive; or in other words more V like ? I like the 'pop' but my poor little stock motored t-rex600 has a hard time with 600 V's. But I think it could handle 550 V's if they were available. The TT550's are doing ok but I miss that extra pop. Is there a 550 blade out there with similar 'pop' characteristics ? Aggressive blades and a light HFE'ed rex should be a killer combination.
And, almost on topic  , I'm putting together the HFE frames tonight and I see in the instructions it mentions the choice of using the rubber grommets on the 9650 servos or not; it affects the number of spacers used. Is it better to use the rubber grommets or to leave them out. Grommets and brass eyelet orientation have always been a mystery to me. thanks.

Lake,
This is my opinion. This is not a nitro ship so vibration is not a issue or concern so...... rubber grommets are not really needed but it is up to you?
Just so you know the brass eyelets always have the flatened surface on the bottom.

It's funny I was just looking over the Logo 14 manual and they show a servo with the flat surface up. I've always put it the same direction as you Charley.
