Is it better to use the rubber grommets or to leave them out.
The tolerances are close enough that the servo plates with the 9650s on the grommets are harder to get installed because the rubber edges stick out enough to bump into the the frames as I slid them into position, especially the ele/pitch combo. It was just easier to go without grommets.. The servos wont move because of the perfect fit of the servos in the plate.. Nice piece of work..

thanks for the info guys. I'll hard mount it without the rubber.

I am hoping my frames will be here tomorrow! Can't wait...got all my 9650's waiting...a new DX7...hard for me to believe I am going to quit flying my 14 and G3 RX in the Trex...but am looking forward to trying out the DX7...
I have to say...I think the Trex will look pretty cool with the new RotorWorkz HFE silver CF frames!!!

To save some more weight on the T600, will the 401/9650 combo be ok on the tail? This seems to work great on a T450, but will it be good on a big heli like the T600 :?:

yes on the 401 not sure on the 9650, never tried it hmmm

401/9650 combo
It will work but you wont be satisfied till you get a faster servo ; ie. 9253 (0.08 sec @ 60 deg)

Finished mine today, did a test-hop in the backyard, hopefully will the weather be good enough tomorrow for some flights.
3424grams, ready to fly. (7lb 8oz?)
Setup are as follow
TRex 600 HFE
FP 10s1p EVO 3700
Z50-800, 14T
3 x 9650 Servo
VBlades
Jazz 55-10-32
Medusa BEC
CSM 720, 9256
Radix 92mm tail blades
AR7000 receiver
Upgrades:
Metal washout
Metal SF Mixing arms
New tailrotor hub
Metal bladegrips
Tached it today at 2200 HS, however, I suspect my endpoints are wrong on the Jazz, numbers tells me I might try 15T later on.
Should be interesting to see how it flies.

Sweet! thanks for sharing!
So the motor clears the canopy OK?
I also like where you put the electronics!

It just barely cleared it, so I heated the canopy with a hairblower, and re-formed it just a tiny bit so I got some extra clearance, I suspect however, in a violent move like in a tic-toc it might hit the motor for an instant, but that will probably be ok.
However, I might change this motor to a Neu 1912/1Y which I currently have in my Logo 14, then it wont be an issue, its much smaller.

Mrmel,
looks good!!! I hope the build and set up went well? did you have to omit the frame spacer by the motor

Nah, I had bad threads on the spacer, gonna try and fix that today.

Got to fly today, very nice weather (even if it was -1C outside)
Nice flight, no eagletree recording since my Micropower has gone to a higher plane of existence...
Had some tail issues, didnt feel locked in, swapped the CSM gyro for a 611 (since I dont know the CSM so well), still didnt feel quite ok, need to take a closer look at it.
While swapping the gyro I realized that the place i mounted the sensor isnt exactly 90 degrees to the main shaft, need to adjust that too.
Motor touched the canopy during negative pitch, else it was ok.
Might swap out the Z50 for a Neu 1912/1Y instead, so I dont have to worry about the canopy.
Used the inner hole on the link arms so I had to up the swash to +100 to get good cyclic, think I will move the arms outwards for the next flight.
Power was what I expected, very nice, however, think I need to go up a tooth on the gear to get the Jazz governor the headroom it need.
Overall it was satisfying flights.

With the motor mounted upright it's out of the airstream from the hole in the canopy base - any problems with motor overheating ?

With the ZMotors, Not even a hint of it :)
I probably fly as much forward as I do backwards though.

Oh my god!
I put the Neu 1912/1Y today, and WOW! :WOW
Extreme power, almost on par with my Logo 14 which is 400 grams lighter!
So much fun :)
Im sure it comes to cost of flight time, but hey, its worth it.
Used 14T, at 70% throttle I had 2200 on the head, 75% was 2300.
..Steve Neu.. :noteworthy
Weather is bad, hopefully gonna get some full flights tomorrow if I am lucky (was snowing today)
