View Full Version : CF Paddles on the Eco - I like em!

On my Eco, I very recently started running a set of CF paddles (62 mm x 50 mm) square w/no rounded corners (recieved yesterday). These were custom made by Brian Reed (breedatrad here on RR) on my request. The dimensions were a educated guess for the flight characteristic I was seeking. Weighing in at 11.4 g, they have almost double the surface area mostly due to the wider chord as compared to the stock paddles (8.8 g).

I had a chance try them out briefly last night, very responsive with no pitching in medium to fast flight. They seem to feel more stable in a hover (even with the fly bar cut 20 mm shorter) and the flip rate is at the limit of my preference which is quite fast. I also tried a flybar that was 20 mm longer than the stock Eco bar and the flip rate was about the same as the stock setup, but the heli felt like a 30 size ship (not a bad thing) in a hover - a big fat groove! The main rotor is running 1720 rpm with MS 470 mm CF blades.

I didn't have enough room to push the FF envelop or exercise any large loops of which I will report when I get the chance. Flight times are essentially unchanged. I am using Sceadu flybars cut to length and retapped ends using a cheap 3M 0.5 pitch die. I can't be more pleased with the performance and they look much better than those molded pieces. Best upgrade since the 401 got installed. Happy boy - Thanks again Breedatrad!
