View Full Version : Plastic Canopy Painting Question

ok..this is my first Heli so I don't want to spend huge piles of cash on painting my canopy, however, I do want high visability and crack/chip resistance since my Trex has a plastic canopy.

The winter edition of RC helicoptor mag has painting suggestions for fiberglass canopies but not plastic. Seems a bit overkill for a beginner's canopy.

Goals:
1. Fluorescent colors like Yellow, Green, Orange
2. Flexible enough for plastic canopy to not crack/peel..etc

I have access to a basic airbrush (probably a badger..I was given a box of hobby stuff from one of the guys and he told me there was an air brush in there somewhere)..etc

Thanks in advance :)

I havent tried it personally but my guess would be if you sanded the canopy with steel wool to scuff off the shine, and painted it with regular model paint you'd be there. I mean, it doesnt have to be fuel proof and the stuff they paint lexan car bodies with needs to be flexable.

Just a thought.

I cut out the opening according to the Finless video.

Washed it with soap and water, wiped down with alcohol.

Masked and sprayed with Tamiya RC car paint. They have a flourescent yellow, orange, green. I used FL yellow and the little side poddy thing I did in Bright Blue.

I can do a pic tomorrow.

Does anyone have the link to this video, I looked and must have missed it.
Thanks

Another choice would be Krylon Fusion paints.

They have a decent selection of colors and some with textures if one wanted use that.
