Thanks again Bob.

That is exactly what I needed . I tried a least 3 places that sell Align Batteries and they did not have any idea. Nowat least I can give them an Align part number.

Just received my new 1010c and 201c combo......quick question on the charger. If you want to plug in to wall outlet what's the best approach? Also will I need that usb program cable for the charger?

Thanks

I bought a 25 AMP switching power supply from Radio Shack and can run (2)-1010's on it no problem
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103961

If you want to update the firmware you will need the cable. I have not as of yet.

How many AMPS do you want to charge at? ;)

I wanted to be able to charge 2 packs at 6 amps which means I pull more than 12 amps out of the wall.

I have a question about the charge output cable that is not included with the charger. I plan on useing FP 4900 6S1P and TPX 5000 6S1P batteries. What charge cable will I need? Will I need one for each battery or are the connections the same for both?
Thanks for the videos Bob, very very useful, All my headaches are gone :D

One side banana plugs, other side whatever you put on your battery's: Deans, goldplugs......
Balancing wires/connectors are the same on TP and FP.

Hey guys, switchers are not like that. If you are drawing, lets say 6A on the output of a switchmode ps that is set to 12VDC, then that is 72 watts.

(P=E*I) (12*6=72)

So, on a switchmode (not linear) the input power will be 72W + the inefficiencies, lets say it is 85% efficient. that adds another 10W of internal dissipation. So that means the input to the PS is consuming 82W of power.

(I=P/E) (82/120=0.683)

Since you are running from 120VAC and the input power is 82W, that means that the input current (from the AC outlet) is ~683mA.

Now on a linear power supply, the input current is always slighty higher than the output current.

Thats why switchers are so much better. You do not have all the losses of a linear. Switchers do have their drawbacks, but for our purpose, we dont care.

Thanks barnowl, I realized how my question sounded after I asked it, DUH. I was looking to find one already made, because I hadn't seen them until today when I spotted them at Grand RC. Ready made with deans ultra plugs attached.

I apologize if this question has been asked & answered already. Is there an adapter to use the TP210V on Align 3s1p batteries? I notice Bob gave a link to an adapter for an Align 6s2p battery. Will this adapter work on the 3s1p packs also? BTW - Thanks for all the videos Bob. They have been an indispensable help!

No that adapter will not work on the 3S pack....
I dont know if Align makes one for the 3S pack.

Big batteries seem easy now. Thanks Bob.

How about charging the little Align 7.4V 1100mAh/9C for the BEC??? I now have an adapter, to plug the battery into the TP 1010, but there is no balancer plug.

OK.. 7.4v @ 1.1 amp.... Is this a two cell I guess... I just don't want to fry the bugger and burn my house down. Do I just plug it in with these settings, or is there something else I need to do??? :?

Mark, you can just hook it up to the 1010 and set it up as you described, it works like a charm! You cannot balance it, but the rx pack hardly needs that because it is low current.
In the future you might be better off with a 2 cell FP or TP battery. They have balancing plugs.
I use TP 2150 packs, because they are very small and light and last very long.

THANKS!!!

Everything is finally here, and it looks like I'll be able to spin the blades under power for the first time this weekend!!!

I can't wait to see this thing go. I feel like a father having his first child.

Hey Bob great video, I just figured out how to update to 2.1A. It took a few attempts but I finally figured it out. Theres a sequence that has to be followed to the "T" The part where the directions say to close all windows programs threw me for a loop. The TP website must remain open throughout the entire process. It should only take 2 minutes, but it took me 15 :arggg:
What do you think about a short video?

The TP website must remain open throughout the entire process.

Thats not true.... I have done it in the field to charges and no connection tot he internet is needed if you sabe the file to your hard disk.

Anyway, I may do a video on this but not a lot of peopl ehave the cable needed!

Save the file to hard drive and you can change firmware anytime anywhere.

The confusion seems (in my opinion) to be the fact that you get no indication that the upgrade was successful. I did it last night and the instructions did not say that you would get a communications fault.

Thinking that I would have to begin troubleshooting, I became bummed. I re-read the instructions and it said if you get an error message, re-upload. Same error message occurred.

Well, I disconnected the power to the TP1010 and re-powered it up, and it HAD been updated to Rev-C.

I could not get the Rev D to work though. Already emailed TP with the fault messages.

Once downloaded and unzipped it kept giving me errors, I tried twice to no avail. On the third time, with the website open, I clicked on Run instead of save, and it began updating within seconds. It took less than a minute. I now have 2.1A
Maybe its my PC, I duno :?
