Well,,,,

My summary of what I think of this heli, "before flight".
Early in the game I encountered a pushrod for the swash to head that was not threaded on one end, only because I have a mini tap and die set was I able to move on. The lipo compartment is big however take note that the cg of this particular heli is not that great. In wanting to mount a rx lipo and regulator up front I had no choice but to put the tr servo a 9256 on the boom to get the cg correct, even with the 10S1p "all the way back". Note I used the default servo location for the AR7000 rx :) I think people who want to try 12S1P are going to have a bugger of a time getting a good CG, it is far too nose heavy and optimum would have been for TT to design it having the battery compartment extended back at least another inch possibly two. If you use a UBEC your CG may be good enough, but certainly not with a rx battery in mind up front.

Next beef I have is the boom is only sucured by two bolts, I think that is on the weak side of thinking, in order to avoid worry I used a Quick UK metal horizontal fin holder that will securely hold the boom and hopefully enough to keep boom in position as well, "that is the idea anyways".

I did not use the stock head or the stock tail so no comment there, I went with the Kasama head, and the Quick UK tail complete and a Kevlar re enforced belt as well for an extra peice of mind.

Just have to do the canopy now and clean up the wiring some more, and it is ready to try out. I set the pitch range for 12/12, cyclic for 7 on ail/ele. HS I am aiming for is 2200-2250.

Here is what is on this heli:

Basics:
Motor = ZPower A50-800 "780kv" + 10 tooth Mikado Mod 1.0 Pinion
Servos = Futaba 9350s' on cyclic
Gyro = Futaba 611 & 9256 servo
ESC = Jazz 55-10-32
RX = Spektrum AR7000 "DX7 System"
Blades = 600 VBlade mains, with 95 Vblade TR blades / Paddles TT
Main System power = Flight Power 10S1P 3700mah Lipos
RX System Power = Evo Power 2S1P 1800mah RX Lipo
RX Power cont = Duralite 6.0V Regulator with TR 5.3 stepdown

Upgrades:
Quick UK Tail Rotor
Quick UK Tail Case
Quick UK Tail Shaft Metal Pulley
Quick UK Metal Horizontal Fin Holder
Quick UK Main Shaft Collar
Quick UK Metal Front Pulleys
Quick UK Metal Canopy Posts
Kasama Complete Raptor Head
Kevlar re-enforced Belt
Hexcrews Hexheads throughout the machine, used only 4 phillips screws from kit, rest all hexheads and the platinum series Hexcrews.

Here are a few more. I am waiting for my canopy and fins from Rickos, but may use the plastic one that came with the kit till then just to fly it and have something to see..... :wink:

That is very nice!!! Congrats!!!

I'm still working on mine. Have everything built and am now working on the electronics. I orderd a UBEC, Z-Power 800 motor and Pheonix 85 HV today.

What battery charger are you using?

TP1010 are the chargers I use, they work pretty well.

I am curious how you like it compared to the L14 :woot

I maiden my the other day, heavy compared to the L14.

(without battery)
E620: 2880 grams
L14vstabi: 2240 grams

Thats alot of difference, so powerwise it wont even be in the same league.
But its very stable and nice to fly.

Yea I found 2370 at 75% with 10 tooth, definetely going to drop it to a 9Tooth, this motor for certain does not have "normal found" drag and loss, pretty impressed. What I was not impressed by today on the Maiden was teh small plastic spacer below front pulley bearings chewed itself, creating the pulley to drop down, tear the belt, and then wear the support for that front pulley clean off! Man bad luck and good luck all in one. I noticed the belt making a slapping noise brouhgt it in right away and white dust everywhere. First I thought well maybe it got loose cause it was abit cold, but looking closer it appears the snall spacer lost a chunk creating the pulley to tilt and chew its onw support apart and the belt. Sucks as now I do have to wait for TT to have parts out and only got in one flight . I am thankfull it is all in one peice but it will be grounded now I bet for a month, arg!!!
Oh and BTW in regards to Kasama head, I had to move the upper balls on the top mixers to outside as Rick C did, the innder so called "crazy cyclic setting" binded even at 10.5 pitch, kinda silly if you ask me. The head was stable and seemed to track well, but the cyclic even at 7 ish degrees was not too exciting to me. I will have to fiddle with it when I get the parts in and all put back together.

I only got the one flight in, so too early to compare, and I had some crazy HS too, lol.

Shawn,

I thought the pulley and it's spacers/shaft are standard R50 parts. You should be able to get those immediately, aren't they available?

Although you were using the Quick UK upgrades there, so why not just use the stock ones - or is the frameset buggered? What actually broke?

It is the frameset on the left side that is toast. Where the pulley pin slides into is completely chewed away. Part of the hobby thats seems to be the way it goes sometimes. Not too stressed about it now. Hopefully parts will arrive shortly after New Year and I can give it a go again. :wink:

Looking nice Shawn. Can't wait to hear the flying report once you get it all sorted.

I need a charger, balancer & packs then I will be in the air. Sounds cheap if you say it really fast huh?

It's been a little over three months so let me fill you guys in.

It's still not in the air as I have been saving for packs to power this beast. I did some ebaying and asked for LHS gift cards last Christmas. This got me a 100% paid for TP1010C charger!!!! I'm going to run a 6 cell Lipo and not 10 like I originally planned. I don't do any 3D and just wanted something fun to fly. I finished wiring everything up and now waiting for my new packs, blue dampers and pinion gear to arrive then I will be in the air. It's been a very long expensive journey but I'm sure will be well worth it soon. :guzzle

Right on man glad to see its almost airborn! :thumbup:

It was airborn, flew well but not so much to my style. I sold it to a freind and still get to fly it so that is cool. In the end it did fly very well, once thing I actually liked about it over my other helis is the tail held better than my Logos or my Rex 600. What I did feel it lacked was a fast nimble feel in rolls and in pirouetting flips, to me no matter when I had it all maxed it was abit slow for my liking. Otherwise it was nice. :wink:

I can understand that with your advanced flying skills. I'm just a figure 8 flyer. I do want to learn how to mow the grass soon.

We have one moving very well on 8 and 10s now Shawn. Videos will be out soon.

Nah I am not too advanced Jeremy, I am just picky is all. Plus it seems like I enjoy building as much as flying and have sometimes sold many helis far too soon or before I even flew them in some cases.

Matt, that is good news, anxious to see your vids!
