I need help with my first heli build and computer tx. I have a TREX450 DX-7, futaba 401 gyro+9650.
I'm trying to understand how to set up the tail limits and HH ect...
I set the rudder limits to just about touching on tail linkage travel...
How do I set the limit pot on the 401?
I watched the "Finless" setup vids but the Tx was a futaba so...
My gain wire is on the gear channel. How do I set the gear to a switch to set the travel pot on the 401?
Whats up with the Gear>gyro setting that alows you to set it to auto?
I'm totally confused so anyone who wants to just explain it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Set the rudder end points to 100/100
Use the limit pot on the gyro so that theres no binding in either direction, if you are maxed out then move the servo linkage out on the servo arm, if you are way under 100 then move it in, on a trex you are going to end up as close to the spline as you can, you may even want to drill a hole even closer.
Then set the end points on the gear channel, I'm not familiar with the software on the 7dx so I cant help you there but the father you are away from center the higher the gain, which side of center determines the mode you are in, solid light is HH, no light is rate mode.

jediwannabe,
I just setup my Hirobo LeptonEX using the DX7 and the Futaba GY401. It was a little confusing at first. I wasn't able to get the gear switch to work the way I wanted so I ended up doing the following:
1. (Input Select) (Hold left keys down while power is turned on)
Aux2: Gyro
Gear: INH
2: Gyro single lead plugged into Aux2
3: (Gyro Sens)
Auto
Rate:
0: 65%
1: 25%
F. Mode : Norm:0 / STNT:0 / Hold: 0
This setup ends up giving you AVCS mode in all your flight modes (Norm, STNT and HOLD). If you don't want AVCS mode for a particular flight mode change the F: mode to 1 and AVCS is now off. Just remeber when you first trun on the gyro it needs to be initalized in AVCS mode.
Best regards,
Cal

Hey Cal lets say I use your setup, if I change the rate for 0 to 90% that should hold the tail better than at 65% correct? Yes I know it will most likely wag like crazy but I just want to make sure the higher the % the more hold just like on my Futaba radios.

Yes, you are correct. When I did my first test flight I had 80% and it was too much, so I decreased the setting which worked fine.

I did mine a little different...(I did put the rudder back to +100/-100)
I'm running it on the gear channel.
Gear switch on "0" is HH set to +60, if I hit the gear switch to "1" I get "RATE" mode on gyro for centering and settingup.
I temporaraly progammed(using Programming mix 1) my aux switch to throw %100 on the gear channel so I could set the pot limits.
But I may try your setup!!! I made a huge mistake and crashed my bird on its first flight at the field.
Story: I had my 450 in a hover in "Normal", I changed my switch positionson my DX-7(Airplane version) so i'm used to the G3 switches....I pulled the "gear switch" up by mistake. I did not hear the RPM change that should have occured to go to my "Stunt" settings. I figured that I must not have flipped the switch at all (remember i'm a newb and I have all new stuff). I found the flight mode switch and hit the stunt...eeewwww, that rate mode wasn't set to hold that RPM the bird went into some fast piro's.
Did I take it out of stunt?
Did I give it rudder to possibley stop the piro's?
Did I flick the gear switch back to "0"?
Did I hit the throttle hold?
NO, NO, NO and NO!
I did what any newb would do, and pulled the collective down! :arggg:
Full Idle up -11 into the ground THWOP broken blade, blade grip, bent main, broken see-saw, shattered landing gear!
I need a hug...that hurt! First day at the heli club too, what a NEWB manuver, what a first impression.

Atleast you will have the flightline to yourself when you fly for a while :D

I know this is an old thread but, I wanted to update the story(besides i'm sure there are alot fo people why ran out and bought a DX-7)
I have physically moved my switches on my DX-7 to convert it to a heli-type TX, I also took the "ratchet out of the throttle"
UPDATE: The cause of my crazy TREX Piro's were from a stipped tail gear not from being in "rate" mode.
The heli has been flying great and my gain is still on the gear channel.
The flight line was a lonely place on my second flight :lolol
From what i can tell the gyro rate is fixed on the RUDD D/R switch (am I wrong?) In [input select] I changed the gear to gyro. In the gyro menu under rate I have 0:65%, 1:30%. When I turn on the rx the gyro goes to HH(solid light) when I hit the rudd switch it goes to rate(light off). I tried changing it the another switch but didn't know how. But I did change the throttle hold to the Aux 2 switch.
