can someone help me with the gyro setup on a 12zh? the book is very lacking in help. Iam running a 401 avcs and 9650 servo. i understand how to setup a gyro , i just dont understand everything that is on the gyro screens. I've managed (mostly by luck) to get my gyro into hh mode in all idleup positions(and it flies correctly) though im not sure how. IT would be nice to know my radio

Thanx

I would just set it up using the Gyro channel ATV to control the gain. That is how I set up the 401's that I have helped people with.

Well when you set up a Gyro you have several options.
1) You want the gain the same in all three Condition (ie.. idle up normal hold)
2) You want the gain different in all three Condition
3) You want a switch for HH to Normal or to adjust gain.
For all Conditions set the FUNCTION to GYRO and the switch to NULL in the FUNCTION MENU. As a side note any Function (Gyro and GOV for example) that has a sub menu in the 12/14 setting a switch in the FUNCTION menu is useless

The first is the easiest. By Default the 12/14 comes defaulted to GROUP the gyro functions (In fact all functions except trim), so all you have to do is set the
MIX to ON
type GY (This tells the radio you have a HH Gyro)
switch to NULL and your % gain in the RATE box.
The Mode Box tells the Gyro whether to be in HH (AVCS) or Normal.

Now if you want a different gain in all conditions like I run simply go to the box For Group and select single. You have to do this for each mode you want a different gain. For example I run the same gain in all idle ups and Hold but slightly higher in normal, so I leave everything grouped except for Normal.

Now for the fun part, if you like to have a switch to set the GYRO in Normal Condition to Normal (non HH), you must assign a switch in the GYRO MENU. I will use switch SA for my example. Do everything as above to include putting
RATE 1 in SNGL.
Go to the switch and select switch SA and Set it to ON ON OFF.
Page down to RATE 2 and make it active (it will display OFF)
Type GY
Switch SA position OFF OFF ON
Group SNGL
Mode NORMAL
RATE Whatever you want for Gain

Think of RATE 1 2 and 3 as Different GAINS for the same Condition, and the single group to set different gains for different Conditions.

You can use any combination you want.

Thank you Steve.
The manual was written in janglish. I suppose I also made a big radio jump, coming from a hitec eclipse 7. WEll worth it though even after the 6 hours it took me to figure out the radio. That was b4 i even looked at the gyro screens. Thanx for taking the time to post that for me.Makes sense now.
im goin flyin...
