1. Decent 3s stand alone balancer
Do I really need a balancer?

Second question first, YES.
For 3 - 4 cells, the FMA CellPro is a very nice balancing charger.
Top o fthe line, buy it once, use it for many years, Thunder Power 1010C and 210V balancer. And the enat thing is, you can make up adapters to charge 3 x 3S packs at the same time.

It will prolong the life your packs and probably pay for itself. An unbalanced pack can over charge one or more cells and over discharge the low cell or cells. These are what add up and degrade the life of your battery.
