i have a 401 avcs gyro, and am wondering; why would i ever want to turn off the avcs function and run it in normal mode? (other than for set up).

its a lot easier to set up the mechanics for avcs only (centering the tail slider like in the finless videos) vs. having to set up the "mechanical" center for normal by flying then physically moving the servo on the boom, then switing to avcs (and likely never using normal).

any clue here?

In AVCS mode you have to use rudder in turns to keep the tail trailing the heli, in normal mode the tail will weather vain in the turns

It's all down to preference really - I fly in normal but switch to HH when flying back towards me tail first. If your happy and learning to use the rudder to turn keep it in HH mode

Alot of scale guys use it so the tail weather vanes in a natural fashion. Also you use it to correctly setup the gyro.
