View Full Version : Servo mounting in L10 questions

I'm curious what kind of hardware did you use to mount your servos with in your Logo 10. Did you use regular servo mounting screws or machine screws with a nylon lock nut or something else.
I'm also in the process of mounting some Hitec 5245's in my L10 and wanted to get some suggestions as far as spacers are concerned. The servos are too deep I guess is the word I'm looking for, so I need to raise them a bit off the frame so they don't interfere with the main shaft.
Ive tried using some old R/C pivot balls that raise the servos off the frame about 4mm or so and that seems to work but Im worried about the servo binding.
EDIT: I think Im going to ditch those servos since they seem to be more of a problem than I care to deal.

Lorents may know best on this one, I can tell you though running 9650s would be a best fit scenario as they are basically tailored to fit the 9650 servo.

I have the exact same concern. I have not purchased my servos yet for my Logo 10 and I do not want to bother with trying to customize some mount or cutting, etc. to make a servo work. I want a servo that screws in and just simply fits.
Are you saying the 9650's are a perfect fit?

Is there a rebuild kit available for the 9650's or do you have to buy a new servo everytime I blow out a servo?

There are gearsets available for the 9650

9650's are not a perfect fit meaning you do have to hack the opening where the servos go. I think they are a perfect fit when the 9650's dont bump against the main shaft. Below is a pic of Lorents where he fits his 9650's into a L10 frame. This is the URL where the pic came from http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=25544

With the Logo 10 plastic frames, I have yet to find a servo that drops right in. The two best servos for the 10 are the Futaba 9650 and the JR DS3421MG. The JR's are my favorite, as they seem to deliver a bit more torque. It isn't so apparent in the L10, but you can feel a difference in the L14.
Be careful when lining up the servos fore and aft, as you need to make sure the linkages up to the swashplate will be aligned correctly (vertical). Also, it is much easier to mount the servos while the frame is still in two halves.
When you do finally get the frames cut for your servos and you like the positioning, make a template to use for future builds. If we could rely on all of our printers to print scale, I could make a printable template and post it. I'll work on that...

Well, thanks. I actually wouldn't mind cutting the frame out a bit, but shimming like MicroMan was talking about would not be fun.
Would the 9650's need to be shimmed so they do not interfere with the main shaft? Do all the servos need to be shimmed out so they don't interfere with the main shaft?

I don't think the 9650's need to be shimmed like a Hitec servo needs to be. I'm just finishing up the JR3421MG servo template...

We need someone to be a guinea pig for this one. I laid out a frame set just a few minutes ago using them, and it looks OK. Use heavy printer paper to print the templates, cut them out, and drop them in the frame sides. Trace over the cutouts with an X-Acto, mark the holes, then start cutting and drilling.
I need a second set of eyes on this, so consider revisions necessary before this gets too distributed.
Thanks to David Henderson for laying the groundwork.
Later!

Micro, ok not perfect but how about "better"?? Jeeeesh If you allready know all this than why ask in a forum? Hey I have built over 10 logos now total what do I know..... The only helis I have myself seen where there was not some sort of trimming or modification of sorts even small was an Ion and a Logo 14. Every other heli so far required some extra peice or sanding or something it has never been a big deal or a mind bender either, anyways,,, good luck with your voyage....

Will a DS821 servo work in the Logo 10?

May I suggest you use the "reply with quote" link if you wish to quote someone. Also If you look at my original post I never asked if 9650's would fit. My original question was never answered as well, but oh well so much for that.

No those are full size servos that come with Spektrum. The L10, 14 use a mid size servo like the 9650 and JR 3421 servo.

You are right Micro you didn't but you were quick to be rude imho when I was simply trying to offer an alternative to your situation of the Hitecs not fitting. See you are new to the Mikado world asking many "new to Logo" questions only a few weeks to a month back. Now I honestly have always only tried to help you and others that I could. It appears to be obvious some people apparently become know it alls or pros overnight I guess. I know how to use the "reply with quote" feature as well thanks anyways. :badair: :badair: :badair:

Since you wish to continue your bashing in public I'll be glad to accommodate you. First you told me "Micro, ok not perfect but how about "better"?? Jeeeesh If you already know all this than why ask in a forum". I didn't ask so why are you putting words in my mouth. Youre not a Admin so please don't tell me what I should post and not post in the forums. I had a legitimate question and I asked it and still didnt get an answer. So now you're slamming me because Ive been asking too many questions, weren't you a noob to helis once in your life. Thanks for your help.

I was NOT slamming you nor was I intending to in any way, I was "trying" to help you, obviously you are too knowledgeable now days to be helped. You pointed out quickly that is was not perfect etc....ALL I WAS TRYING TO DO WAS HELP YOU! As I stated you are right you did not post a question about it, but again I was trying to offer an alternative for you. If you are too proud to see that, it is not my problem. You made a point of bringing that to the table, further to that told me to learn to use a quote feature, who is treating who like a "noob" as you call it? You can search back into any history here or on any forum, I have never tried to treat anyone like a noob, and certainly am not a person to start things on any forum. You kind sir however have entered my "ignore person" category for now and future, you are the first so feel proud of that. I have never slammed you for asking questions nor would I to anyone, not sure where you get the part where I told you waht to post and not to post either, you are confused with another issue I think....I am done with you, be well. Now at least hope there is some good left in the thread and move on, you want drama goto another forum please and thank you.

I dont consider it help when you never answered the question, maybe you need to re-read your post because I saw your remarks as slamming me for asking questions. I really appriciate being placed on you ignore list so I dont have to see you not answer a direct question that was asked, yet offer your knowledge that has nothing to do with the question asked. You should really re-read your posts again since its very plain to see, where you said I shouldnt ask a question if I knew the answer. If you would have answered the question there wouldnt be any "drama" thank you.

Reading back... I think I might have hijacked this thread. I'm sorry about that. When I saw MicroMan's question, I got all excited because I was just about to buy Hitek servos, but was concerned about the exact same problem MicroMan is having.
Sorry MicroMan, no hijacking intended here.
