What kind of decibel reduction does it offer?

Quite a bit, I have one on my standard gasser and soon will be running one on the Observer.

I replaced the century v1 muffler with the Bergen muffler on my Intrepid. It is more quiet and a lot easier to put and stay on. I tightened it, flew it, tightened it again while hot, and it stays tight. Easy to remove and put back on. Nice quality!

Chris, what's the difference between these and the first ones I purchased? I got two of the very first ones, one has about 30 flights on it, the other has been mounted, but not used yet.

If you purchased them in the last 6 months, they are the same thing....

If purchased over a year ago, these have different baffles and welding technique.

Decibal level is down to appx 88Db, measured at less than 10 ft with the heli in a hover.

Some slight tweaking of the needles may be necessary when adding the muffler. Richen both needles a little bit, then retune for performance in a hover and full power climbouts.

Chris,

Any suggestion on how much to richen it? Are you talking just a screw driver blade width or some multiple of that?

Set your needles to 1 3/8 turns out if not there already and see how it works.

Chris, I openned both needles up a blade width and fired it up. I had an opportunity to fire it up on my sidewalk in between the monsoon and it sounded pretty good. Sounded a bit like it was four stroken until liftoff and then it smoothed out. I couldn't really do anything as I was in tight space with the wind gusting to 15MPH. I noticed more smoke up to about 1/4 stick, but that may be becuase the exhaust faces a different direction. I am also running a GV-1 and that kicks in at about 20% stick. I did a real quick and short climb out and it felt normal and smooth so maybe I'm good for now. The weather here is lousey again and it doesn't look like I'll get a chance to fly until Thursday. I'll post an update then.

Try using the 8mm wrench from this set - Craftsman 8 pc. Wrench Set, Open End Ignition Metric
Sears item# 00904308000 Mfr. model# 4308. The end are 80 degree and 15 degree which allow clearance to tighten the muffler nuts.
Safe flying, Peter
