This is a private host so I have to monitor bandwidth so this may have to come down if I go over.

there is 2 different segments in this film both at the same field, thats why there is different blades and canopies when doing the video, both are A123

Sounds great to me.. It sounds like a Jazz ESC is that correct? I can hear that it revs higher than on 3S lipo but that is expected i guess.

Cool stuff, keep reporting how everything goes.

Thanks Cryo! Looks like plenty of power to me. And yea, you need a new camera man.

How much do the packs weigh?

Cryofix
12-29-2006, 04:24 PM
packs are around 300 grams, a 3s lipo is about 160G a 4s lipo is about 210G. as far as weight is concerned I have not seen any difference but I am a beginner and fly only mild 3d.

Normal problem with a heavy pack is flight durations cut down, overheating of esc, packs, and motor, however I can almost double lipo times with this pack, I get 12 minutes, I do recommend that last 2 minutes not be used for overly aggresive flying, my motor is right around 81 degrees, the pack is about 105-112 degrees and the esc is not even hot, ambient outside temp is about 50 degrees right now.

Thanks Cryofix. Keep us updated on these, its nice to have some cheaper alternatives. How many cells come in those dewalt packs? How long have you been running this setup?

Cryofix

10 cells in 1 Dewalt pack, 2 dewalt batteries = 5 packs for the trex, I have 3 10S packs and 2 4S pack, I run the 10S on my Logo 10 AP ship and, obviously these on my rex.

I have about 15 flights on my 4s packs and about 35 flights on my 10S, so far no problems.

forgot to mention I run a CC 35 with Medusa Bec and 11 tooth 430L and 315 aligns

Not sure what you mean, I use the 6 pin tap for TP that I get from Joe at tech-mp.com

Start with the black wire on the tap going to the negative on the battery then just solder them in the order the battery is soldered - + - + - +

hi all just want to clarify there is a difference between the A123 and the Emoli from de walt

A123 (M1)have a continuous discharge of 30c and are rated to 2300mah and nominal voltage of 3.3v and full charger of 3.8v per cell therefore you need a special charger or lipodaptor ( a great product!!!) to charger with regular charger. They will also have a lower voltage for the same number of cells for lipos, to equal it just add another cell ie 3 cell lipo is about 4cell M1. These cells weigh about 70g each but pack one hell of a punch!!!

Ps you can also charge these buggers at about 10amps!!! 12 min charge time if you have the equipment

the dewalt emoli ;
are rated at about 3300mah but usable only for 2400mah. are true Li ion cells with nominal voltage of 3.6v and have a continuous discharge of about 10c ( realistically) they do not like current draw above 30 amps and weigh about 100g each cell.

I fly 5 cell emoli on my ep8 and 5 cell M1 ( A123) which is the same as a 4 cell lipo pack. ( I also fly a 4s2p (Tp2100) lipos with the same setting as the M1's) The M1 have more punch then the lipos and no bogging.

ok i think have the basic idea, but cant i just take the pins out of the battery and put it in the different balance pin.

Once you disassemble the actual pack you will see why you can not use the existing wiring.

Looks interesting. What we need video of is a good pilot flipping the heli around a bit, and a MUCH better camera man :).

Tele, so Cryofix is flying the M1 cell then? But how come those cells come from dewalt packs? Which are supposed to be Emoli cells according to you? Did I miss something some where?

I have not seen any 36V dewalts with emoli, all the ebay stuff always says something about the nonophosphate.

Hey, you guys are being kind of hard on the camera operator. I saw several brief glimpses of an object that may well have been an R/C heli. I thought the naration was inspired, and the editing - well - it moved me. I found it to be a poignant commentary on the state of our hobby in the badlands of PA, told in the vernacular of the indiginous people of that region. For me, it really worked on so many levels. I give it two thumbs up, and would gladly give greater praise would but that I had more thumbs!

P.S. I'm pretty sure I've seen some of his earlier work documenting the travels of BigFoot. I assume the camera operator was running barefoot on sharp rocks heated in the sun while shooting this piece. That can't be easy.

Whoa! Wait a second, I'm confused here a little. I'm interested in building some of these packs for $hits and grins but I thought the Dewalt cells are A123 cells. If not, the where can I get some of the ones with the 30C discharge rate and whats the price? :dontknow Dewalt is Emoli or A123 :dontknow

My understanding is that the DeWalt 36V is an A123 (or M1) cell. I believe they are 30C. I just bought a pack (10 cells) on Ebay moments ago. I paid $134 with shipping.

I can not confirm that dewalt does not use emoli but every single 36v pack should be A123 M1 packs, purchased 4 packs off ebay and got all A123 cells.
