Default Odin V2 refinements?

What revisions will be incorporated on the Odin V2 as compared to the debut edition? From what I gather, the ECS is adequate cooling performance, provided it runs, and may want a 3S lipo for power. Do you fellas think this is the only reason it's not more popular among 90's? After all, light, powerhouse performance is the 90's calling card...right?

i think the odin is really different and it scares a lot of people. people will always have doubt because its not like every other 90. the cooling fan scares people even though it works. the say its to small to be a 90. but its a 90 regardless of what they say. it works and it flies great, thats all i really cared about lol.

I am tempted between an Odin 90V2 and a 6HV. I swore my next build would be an EP FBL, but I am not so sure. Flybars work fine enough for me, and I'd like a bigger heli. I am just getting the hang of nitro with two 55's and was thinking of something that truly flies differently. I am always interested in something more unique, and the Odin might fit the bill. It just looks like a 6HV truly has more power than the 90.

I have an Odin II, and two partial Odin I's.

The V2 I have has CF side frames, metal main blade grips, and an upgraded fan.

The motor mounts on the V2 are also different (I am running the V1 mounts as they looked more robust to me).

I have only run the fan from a three cell pack, so I cannot compare cooling performance with a two cell. I am also running an aftermarket ESC for the fan (mixed to my throttle channel) and an aftermarket BEC to power the radio, gyro, etc.

The fan turns on when the Throttle trim is moved halfway up, which is where the engine idles. At any throttle setting above this the fan runs at full speed. The throttle trim can be raised after throttle shut off to turn the fan back on and cool the engine the rest of the way down-not necessary, but nice to be able to do it.

It was hotter than blazes at the HeliFreak Fun Fly in Chino last weekend. The fan had no problem keeping the engine cool. I did not measure the temperature.

I understand that there is a newer, slightly larger canopy for the V2-I do not have that at this point. I did move the canopy approximately a half an inch forward in order to clear the servo arms I am using (larger than those recommended in the instructions).

The construction is typical Compass-simple, elegant design and very strong. The quality of the parts (CF/Aluminum/Plastic) is outstanding.

The helicopter is extremely stable, but very quick (also typical of Compass). Power to weight is excellent. The vertically compressed CG makes for excellent axial rolls and precise aerobatics. The helicopter flies very straight and true.

Mine is set up as follows:

JR12X Transmitter
JR921 Receiver
JR8717 Cyclic Servos
JR8900G Rudder Servo
Futaba 9254 Throttle Servo
Futaba GY520 Gyro
CY ATG governor
OS .91 HZ-R Engine
Hatori Pipe
CC 18 amp ESC for fan control (on channel 9 mixed to throttle).
Western Robotics Hercules Micro for flight pack power (rated at 10 amps constant current).
CY 690 mm Main Rotor Blades (Stick Bangers)
KBDD TWEE Paddles with the Flybar mounted in the rear hole of the Paddle
KBDD TWEE Tail Rotor Blades (105mm)
KBDD TWEE Dampers

I think the Odin might juist kick my arse! It's elegant indeed, but not sure I am up to the extra complication of the fan. I was really tempted by the Odin V2 in the classifieds. I think a 6HV might be more my speed. Thanks.

I have to say that you really won't go wrong with either one. If I could afford it, I totally own both!

After finally seeing an Odin in person, I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with it even though it only went up for the one flight (I think?). Ah clem had it at the fun-fly and I got to looking at it on the bench to see what was different on it compared to the Knight 3D which I have already. I was very impressed with the frames and structure. It was a lot smaller than what I thought it would be and just about mistook it as a 50!

Much like the 6HV, it's small on the bench, but massive in the air. I didn't get a chance to fly it, but I know those suckers can move. One of the former pilots complained that it was "Too light!" so I know that it would haul butt if you let it wind up. Maybe not as fast as the 6HV because it's electric, but if you're into nitro there's probably not another heli on the market that could beat it in a race. To top it off, it has a similiar designed head as the 6HV, so I'm pretty sure it flies like a 3D+ on steroids!

The ECS fan is actually one of the neatest features of the Odin. I wish I could get one for my Knight 3D, but I doubt that it will catch on in the 50 sizes for some reason.

"not sure I am up to the extra complication of the fan. I was really tempted by the Odin V2 in the classifieds"

The fan was/is much less of an issue than I thought it would be. It was quite easy to set up and provides very efficient cooling.

"I think a 6HV might be more my speed. Thanks."

Or, you can do what I did and get both!

Sorry, Kev, no pun intended. I have the Outrage 550 and it makes my two 55 nitros feel like dawgs. I just thought Airworks' Odin V2 was nice and as an unflown aiframe, would be free of the problems in a used airframe.
