Ok im kind of new to flying r/c helicopters and have been learning on a hirobo X-spec. Ive deemed it not quite cost effective in the event of a crash because im moving into forward flight. I boutght a raptor 30v2 and noticed that the tail is only driven when there is power supplied. I was wondering if there is anyway that the tail can be rotate with the main blades via autorotation gear or something.

Yes you can. You can replace the tail pully.
Here's the part # http://onlyraptors.com/new_moreinfo.php?part=TTRPV0379

Ok so which tail pully do i replace. Im guessing the one that connects to the main rotor gear. and would i just buy the one for the 50 size raptor or do i just need to go get a aftermarket one. If you can a part number would really help.

he gave your part # in the link ;)
it's PV0379. It's the bottom pulley and is the same for the 30 and 50.

Lol thanks when i first opened the link it for some reason showed one of the belt guides. The second time it opened up right. Thanks for the help.

How does this install? Are there any directions anywhere's? I got the tail gear with 4 screws ... what do I do with them? there's no holes in the tail gear. I see the original one screws to the main gear by 4 machine screws to a collar on the top of the main gear. How do you install this tail gear? I'm stumped.

Heres a link to the manual to get those put together.

Let me know if it does not anwer your questions.

30's dont carry alot of energy in an auto to begin with, I'm not sure I'd want to agrivate that with a driven tail.

I kind of figured that also but what happens if you have to auto from a decient altitude and your tail stops in mid air. Wouldnt it suck to do circles all the way to the ground. Ive also been looking into the driven tail bec i want to upgrade to a 50 later.

Actually, When you are no longer applying power to the main rotor you are nor having to compensate torque anymore and with tail fins fitted to your helicopter you can auto in a nice straight line without any tail rotor.

Ok not to start a long argument or anything, but lets say you are autoing down towards the ground and need to turn the heli. No t/r equals no turn then crash or roll over. but in another senario once the collective is applied durring the flair wont that cause the heli to rotate?

It really isnt as bad as it seems, I had very little experience under my belt and managed to auto my 30 several times.
If you have a decent simulator, try an auto with a 30 vs a 50 and you will see how much easier the 30 picks up head speed - this makes a heck of a difference and is largely due to the fact that the tail isnt driven.
Make sure you practice autos lots and lots and lots on the sim.
If you have some forward speed which ensures your tail holds using the stab fin, you can actually steer the heli to "some" extent using your cyclic controls - although this is a bit more difficuilt, but very possible. I've done it turning my 30 from facing a dyke after running out of fuel at 40ft altitude :D .
Finally, I heard there is a way you can get your tail part driven, by placing a thin washer somewhere (I think its between the tail gear and main gear but perhaps someone in this forum knows for sure). This would act like a slipper clutch and give you a driven tail.

Ive figured out how to make the tail a driven tail. And i was just making a discussion about the possibilities of what happens with the lack of a driven tail. Im sure that you can auto a 30 down with no tail and keep the heli straight, but this would be using stock fins not the 3D fins with al of the holes cut out. But i guess the easyest way to see if it works is go out and do an auto.

Finless has posted a great tutorial on Autos on here somewhere - definatly worth checking out if you're still new to them. Helped me a lot!.

The heli will weathervane into the wind, which is where you want to be any way. The body may rotate a small amount during the pitch pull but thats mostly from bearing drag. They were autoing helicopters long before they had driven tails.
