Pulled my old rugey out of the shop and hovered around blades were out a little and could not bring them back into track. :arggg: Figured the head was bent or the mai shaft. Dial indicated the shaft and it has bout 5 thousands run out measured at the top of the shaft. Question is this too much?
Thanks
Brandon
I'm guessing not. If it's an oldie and been sitting for a while maybe the dampers rotted. Maybe slightly bent feathering shaft rotating a bit between adjustments?
Think about how much different that will make at the tips of the blades,
even a small central error makes a significant error at the tips
Well, using stray numbers, if the shaft was 5 in long and there is a bend resulting in .005 in difference between the ends, then the shaft has a lean of about .057 deg. If the blade is 36 in long then the tip will be displaced by .036 in. That's a lot less than the thickness of the blade. I have never been successful in getting anything unbent. I have reliably made it worse. So I don't try that anymore. And I wouldn't buy a new shaft for .005 worth of bend unless I ran out of other stuff to suspect.
Maybe a blade is warped.
